If it was a Tory councillor or aUKIP represntative we sually see posts with gusto about how disgraceful to supposed 'misuse' of the R-word. Even when they are using it technically correct.

So can I assume it is ok for her to use it?

She's not a politician, only an actress
She's an actress so presumably can say what she likes. She's not meant to be representing the views of her voters.
What exactly can she resign from?
Resign from what?
If you mean "rape", say rape, why "the R-word"?
If that is how it makes her feel why shouldn't she express that?
She is not the first to make the comparison.

'Rape' is a perfectly acceptable word to use in contexts other than being sexually forced.
One could discuss the 'rape' of a country by an occupying force for example.
She hasn't done anything wrong, other than use a word some people are touchy about in it's broader context.

Because it seems to be a problem to mention it.

So, despite the fact she is a very public figure it is fine for her to use the word rape to describe her space being invaded but if it's a Tory they cannot say 'rape the land' ?

I agree kvalidir. I am just pointing out that it seems to be one rule for one and one rule for another.

Resign from what? well she does have a job so use your imagination.
Perhaps you could find another story where the comparison you want to make is less tenuous?
Resignation from acting is just not really possible since it's a job with an utterly different nature. She could retire, or perhaps film companies could shy away from hiring her, but she can't really resign.

Politicians are being held these days to rather stricter standards than most. Whether or not this is a good thing, it does mean that there is far less chance of people getting het up about what Charlize Theron says. A different role, and one that has different standards, and so there will be few or no posts clamouring for an apology.

Right-ho Jack, attempt to belittle me rather than put your case.

This woman made the choice to put herself up to the public gaze; somewhat different than a woman having NO choice when she gets raped. How much less tenuous should I be then?
she signed up to be an actress, not have every aspect of her private life poured over and commented on

rape 1 (rāp)
n.
1. The crime of forcing another person to submit to sex acts, especially sexual intercourse.
2. The act of seizing and carrying off by force; abduction.
3. Abusive or improper treatment; violation: a rape of justice.

I think you only see the word as forced sex when clearly it has other meanings - one of which Charlize feels she is being subjected to.
You are confusing two issues in your OP.

If you wanted responses on CT's comment, fair enough.......but to try and attach it to the poor, poor beleagured UKIP representatives didn't really work, did it?
//This woman made the choice to put herself up to the public gaze//

No this woman chose to be an actress. She did not choose for her private life and that of her child's to be subject to prying, gossip or even outright lies.

maybe not a great description to use. but in truth I'm not really bothered, she's only an actress.

I don't think you could really imagine what it would be like.

Yes, but it is very well known if you find fame and fortune - by courting the press - you will not be able to turn it off or on.

She courted the fame (chose it).
