So international condemnation can make a difference then? Let's hope the same can be said for Pakistan and India.

Sanity prevails. They're still a bunch of ignorant barbarians though.
This is interesting. About half way down it throws some light on the background to this particular case.

Thank you for the link Naomi. No further news on this today so far it seems.
Too early to celebrate her release yet I think but even then nothing to celebrate really when this sort of thing go on and the police do nothing other than stand by and watch. It's so damned depressing.
Going by the BBC report Mikey posted in a new thread, it doesn't look too hopeful really.

Report here in the Telegraph that the government has denied that they are releasing this lady so her lawyer is taking her case to the African Commission on Human Rights in the hope of securing her release. So conflicting reports and unsure what is happening but it's not looking good. Surely they won't go ahead with this in the face of such fierce opposition. What will they gain by it?

Bit more news if anyone is still interested. Apparently the Americans are helping Mr Wani. Not much to say really until we get to hear from the Sudanese themselves.

Been trying to find out the latest on this story but not much seems to be happening. It was her brother who reported her to the authorities and says she should be executed if she doesn't relinquish her Christian faith. And I didn't realise that it is only women who can't marry outside of the Muslim faith, the men are free to marry whomever they wish of whatever faith. That figures!
That's absolutely true, Ladybirder. Women can't marry a non-Muslim, but men can. I think it's assumed that women will do as they're told - and convert.
I guess the implication is that men will soon convert their (many) wives to Islam.

I had a friend who converted to Islam to marry a Muslim woman, though you wouldn't have known, particularly as he was an alcoholic.
Question Author
Are they still together jno?
Alcoholism aside, we have someone here on AB who says he converted to Islam in order to marry his wife. Unusual - to say the least.
Question Author
Alcoholism aside - thank goodness for that. I thought we might be seeing a pattern starting here:-)
I say 'alcoholism aside' because that's an element of his life that, to date, is unknown. I just know he claims to have converted to Islam in order to marry his wife. (I don’t believe it though).
Question Author
Why don't you believe it? Or would you rather not say here?
Just call me suspicious. ;o)

According to last night’s London Evening Standard, this case has been taken to appeal, so nothing positive yet.
Question Author
Has anybody heard any more news about this case recently? Would love to know what's going on.
Nothing, Ladybirder.
Question Author
Hmmm Naomi. Wondering if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Has the lashes sentence been carried out yet? So many questions. Is the silence ominous? Ignore me I'm wittering on:-) I shall keep my eyes peeled as they say.
