Should The Queen Abdicate Now- Thinking About This After Carlos Spain
96 Answers
I was wondering what people think. Should the Queen abdicate and give her role to Charles. IF she lives to be the same age as her mum Prince Charles would be 89 when he takes over the throne. She has done a good job but surely it is time she went now what do people think?

How many wives would like to know that their hubby still had hankerings for his ex, few i expect.
As far as I know our present Queen pledged to serve us for all her life and she has done that to the best of her ability. She also pledged to remain married to Prince Phillip and to the best of my knowledge they have managed to raise a family of 4 lovely children whom I all love and respect. Death, on the other hand, does not respect royalty and we we all be told the very sad day when our Queen leaves this world and goes on to the next. The Royal are very much loved but they are not, to my knowledge, immortal.
Can any of you fellow Christians back me up on this or am I the only one who believes all this?

i am no Christian, but i would say that many respect the Queen for her loyalty, devotion to duty, she made a solemn oath and has stuck to it,
not sure about her lovely children, three of them divorced, all have had their share of marital problems, and though i respect Anne because she is a good advocate for the countryside, and does a lot for charitable institutions, she is not known for her placid nature and doesn't suffer fools gladly.
When the Queen dies Charles will take over, i don't think she will abdicate,

I have great respect for our queen, she is governed by tradition and loyalty to the throne...she has little say in how she lives her life and will rule till she passes...I have met Charles several times and find him authoritative , informed and very capable....however many riches and seemingly privileges the royal family enjoys, it does not make up for loss of personal freedom and constant scrutiny...I wouldn't like it at all.....LONG LIVE THE QUEEN !
i wouldn't like it either, always on show, never being able to say what you truly think, being criticised and not being able to retaliate, or respond in any way. I think the Queen has been a worthy, admirable exponent of duty, loyalty, to her country, family, never a word out of place, even in the most trying of times, this must have cost her dear in many ways. If i had been her i would have told Mugabe, McGuinness and any number of undesirables they were not welcome here, so she has to be a diplomat of the first order.

But if Charles and his missus are going to ascend the throne in the future anyway, and unless we have a republic, I can't see any way around it, why not let Betty put her feet up ? Nobody can say that she hasn't done a sterling job for the last 60'odd years. If she follows her Mum, she could hang on for another 20 years, and then Charles would in his dotage.
I am on record as saying that if we were to have a democratic vote on a President, Betty would get my vote. But her old man isn't going to last much longer. Do we really want another zombie queen like Victoria, who spent the rest of her life dressed in black, hiding out in one of her many homes, rather than a Monarch on display, and seen to be working ?
Just to repeat, I can't understand all this anti-Camilla guff. She is no oil painting but who is at her age ( Cliff Richard excepted of course )

I don't want to split hairs here but wasn't she called Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother ? It says so on the Wiki entry ::
http:// en.wiki pedia.o rg/wiki /Queen_ Elizabe th_The_ Queen_M other
I don't remember the press during WW2, when she visited the East End referring to her and her husband as the King and his consort.
But its a moot point I suppose, and suitable for argument by pedants only !

ok not to split hairs
she was Queen Consort, in the same way Philip is consort to his wife
Queen Elizabeth, she came from a good family, but was not royal, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, as it were. Otherwise she would have been Queen Elizabeth the second and her daughter Queen Elizabeth the Third, depending on how far you reach back into royal accession. She became The Queen Mother on her daughters ascent to the throne.

The royal are a very respected family. They give blood which saves lives as do I and they always put the nation before themselves. They have all had to prove their own worth in the Armed Forces, they have had to gain University degrees which I am told are not easy.
I am a lifelong Blood Donor and Organ Donor which means someone will live on after my death. I do not know when that time will come but I am ready for it. That will come to me, all of the royals, which means Abdication is not needed.
None of us can escape from Death.
LONG LIVE THE QUEEN (Elizabeth the Second) that is. NOT the Alien Queen from Aliens that is the only Queen I fear.
Is that real or not?
