/// Since the legalisation of same-sex civil marriage, for the first time in British history, gay and lesbian couples have a legal advantage over straight ones. Same-sex couples have two options: civil marriage and civil partnership. In contrast, opposite-sex couples have only one option: marriage. This is profoundly unjust and unfair. ///

I don't think many straight couples would really care tbh.
That's why the proposal for civil partnerships for same-sex couples is being discussed.
Doh - for heterosexual couples....

Aog, Don't forget, Gays are Special, they need to be treated differently or so they keep telling us.

ummmm

That's not the point, they should at least be entitled to the option.
It is important to allow people to have the tax benefits without the god, I agree.

Would the church oppose this do you think?
"They need to be treated differently or so they keep telling us."

No they don't. I think this is almost the complete opposite of 90% of gay-rights messages? Equality is the goal, not difference!
Nowt t' do wi church!
You don't need the God, Ed, anyway - neither of my marriages were conducted in church.
The options should be the same for everyone.
Because the law-makers didn't seem to think that straight couples would want to take up CPs when the option to marry was their sole preserve.....
Boxtops, are all marriages conducted under the CoE - as the established church of the country - or so I thought?
Straight couples will eventually get equality....should take about 60 years.
Surely the Registry marriage is held as a religious service in the sight of God? I cannot see why gay marriage is required, CP's cover the bases for gays. Heterosexual people have their children to bring up in a time honoured tradition of a legal marriage. (At least the majority do). Equality doesn't mean bending all the rules just to satisfy them. It is unfair.

Ed @ 14:21,
Regards the average 'man in the street' Gay, I agree with you,
it's the more 'outgoing' ones who think they invented Homosexuality I was referring to.
Why is my being able to get married unfair to you, AYG?
No, AYG - the register office marriage doesn't mention any religious references.

2 x R/O Marriages here. no religion involved.
You have the advantage of a civil partnership JTH, most people would be satisfied with that. Marriage for me is for a man and woman who have children. I have no wish to be in any way against you at all JtH I respect your stance, but those partnerships are different to the norm imo.
