Hmmm, no wonder Leon Britten has a selective memory - I imagine it's going to be getting a whole lot worse from here...

Mmmm ... the timing of this accusation seems convenient.
He looked like a man who believed that the net was closing in on him when he was asked a few questions a couple of days ago.
2012 She went to the police, naomi.
Yes, I saw that - but it's only now reached the media.
Isn't that because he was arrested?
I expect so - but why two years later?
The police are in control of the timing, what are you saying about the police?

Only one accusation up to now made about Brittan, but...

'A Labour peer is being investigated after 12 men made allegations of historical child abuse against him'

12, now surely that is a case of no smoke without fire?
I'm not saying anything about the police. Just wondering why at this particular time. The accusation against Britten (who is not a Labour peer) came from a then 19 year old - not a child. I don't think the two cases should be confused.
It seems that Lord Brittan has an awful lot of questions to answer, and I sincerely hope his recently poor memory recovers in time. It has been proven this last week that if you continue to ask him awkward questions, he eventually manages to remember. There has been far too much innuendo over historical child abuse and not enough hard facts. In my opinion, we need that Public Enquiry ASAP.

I have been listening to R4 this morning and Simon Danczuk has been explaining how we was leaned on not to use to Parliamentary Privilege when he appeared in front of the Home Affairs Select Committee this week. But of course, he did name one name, rather cleverly I thought. If he stands up in Parliament and shouts out the other names, he will have my backing. We need to break this logjam of obfuscation and misinformation without any further delay.
thank goodness we've still got a free press, just.
Now now Naomi, don't be confusing people by reading and understanding stuff before commenting.
Baroness Helena Kennedy and Lord Tebbit were just discussing this on the Andrew Marr Show. They both agreed that in those days when this is alleged to have happened the view was that the establishment had to be protected at all costs or the whole system would come falling down. Both also a agreed they were pleased it had now come into the open and that Cameron had done the right thing by asking a judge to take a look at it and then take it from there.
(who is not a Labour peer)

I am fully aware of that, naomi. I personally don't care what side of the political fence a child abuser is on. I would just like to see them behind bars, the same goes for a rapist.
Cameron has at last done something positive, for which I am grateful. Lets hope it isn't kicked into the long grass, as it has in the past !
What could Private Eye have been hinting at all those years ago?

The "Mary Moss" Elm Guest House List of VIPs who visited the male brothel has a certain name right at the very top.

Thanks Gromit...that list makes for very interesting reading indeed ! Could Brittan's name on that list be in any way related to :

1...why the dossier he was given has disappeared.
2...his initial loss of memory of any dossier in the first place !

.

selective memory and very worn shredder I think....

One of the few news items that made me stare at the tee-vee.

Naomi the change from 2012 is that now Alison Saunder DPP says of historical allegations, yes yes they must go to a jury !
whereas previously the test was : oh come besides just saying it, do you have any other evidence

Not surprisingly the conviction rate has gone down
and our Al is having a think about that one .....

More cases will bring the conviction rate up she says....
excuve me ? yes she really does say that .....
