A soldier captured in Gaza is reported to be British.

I had no idea that the Israelis were using British Nationals. Why have the media not reported that? We fret about Islamists going to Syria and coming back as mudering maniacs, why no fuss about jews coming back to Britain after taking part in the barbarism we see daily?

Gromit, it is reported the missing soldier holds dual nationality.

how many would-be British jihadists additionally hold Iraqi or Syrian citizenship?
Question Author
I can only imagine it is because they leave their 'cause' back in the Middle East rather than trying to carry it on once they are back on British soil.
/// Channel 4 News understands that the soldier is from a family of British Jewish immigrants. It is also understand that he is a cousin – either second or third – of Israeli's defence minister, Moshe Ya'alon. ///

I'm not sure how rigidly this is enforced, but....
It is illegal under the Foreign Enlistment Act 1870 (c.90) for a British Citizen to serve in the armed forces of another country because:

“If any person, without the license of Her Majesty, being a British subject, within or without Her Majesty’s dominions, accepts or agrees to accept any commission or engagement in the military or naval service of any foreign state at war with any foreign state at peace with Her Majesty, and in this Act referred to as a friendly state, or whether a British subject or not within Her Majesty’s dominions, induces any other person to accept or agree to accept any commission or engagement in the military or naval service of any such foreign state as aforesaid,— He shall be guilty of an offence against this Act, and shall be punishable by fine and imprisonment, or either of such punishments, at the discretion of the court before which the offender is convicted; . . . - See more at: http://windowintopalestine.blogspot.co.uk/2009/02/british-jews-serving-in-idf-israeli.html#sthash.g1lDw2jZ.dpuf

I stand corrected, the Independent did a piece on this very subject a few days ago.

// Dozens of British supporters of Israel do serve in the Israeli army. The same applies for Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the US. And they don’t necessarily gravitate to being war criminals. This may not be what an Arab would say – and it is certainly not what Israelis would suggest. But there is plenty of evidence – from 1982 in Lebanon, from 1996 in Qana, from 2008-9 in Gaza and again in Gaza these past two weeks – that individual Israeli soldiers and pilots have committed acts which, under international law, are war crimes.
Let us hope and pray that no UK citizens have been involved in such terrible deeds. But it wouldn’t be a bad idea, would it, if the lads in blue had a friendly word with them when they arrive back at Heathrow – and insist on knowing exactly what they were up to when they wore another country’s uniform. //

Because if a Jew returns from foreign shores and attempts a 7/7(as is expected by Islamic fundies returning from their short sabbatical's) or similar I'll eat my kippah.

Do try and keep a rein on your hysteria, please.....
Double standards.

Chill

OK, what is the difference please?
I've explained it Gromit, but for the hard of understanding:

Jews don't have a propensity for fundamentalist-led terrorism aimed at the UK population, regardless of which theatre of operations they've been in.

Radicalised Islamists do.
Keyplus, not double standards at all. As has been said, unlike returning radical Islamists, British Jews returning from Israel pose no threat to our country.

Gromit, I would have thought that ^ was plain common sense.
If they thought it would serve some useful purpose they would. Zionists once hanged British servicemen they had captured.

This is the 21st century sandy, let's keep it topical.

But if we're gonna talk about outrageous behaviour, fundamnetalists continue to behead people to this day.
The actions you mention are some 60 years old.
Unless the British start intentionally and indiscriminately firing missiles into Israeli territory, I doubt they have anything to fear from Israeli soldiers in or out of Britain.
^Quite right.
As a teenager in the mid 60's I attended Clarke's College Finchley which was attended by a lot of jewish pupils as we were in close proximity to Golders Green and Temple Fortune where they lived.I remember may of the jewish boys were itching to get there O levels done and dusted so they could help fight in the 6 day war or maybe the yom kippur war.My memory escapes me which one it was.
We had no fears that if they returned unharmed they would eventually take over their Dad's furrier trade or rag trade and nothing more sinister than that.
A former RAF Sergeant pilot I knew was a RVT Flight Lieutenant in my ATC Squadron and served with distinction in Burmah flying Beaufighters during WW2.His civilian job was chief pilot for a petro-chemical and he had free use of the firms De Haviland Dove executive aircraft which he flew between London and Switzerland on company business. When he had the occasional long weekend free of company flying he would tootle across to Israel and jump in a Israeli fighter jet of the day and mix it with the Egyptian airforce Migs.A great man, jewish, and an inspiration to us young men.We did'nt fear his return.Jihadists and Jews from Britain going to fight are chalk and cheese and should not be mentioned in the same breath. No Jew is ever likely to do a Lee Rigby R.I.P.

Retro, Nice terrorist friends you have...

// Irgun kidnapped two British army Intelligence Corps NCOs, Sergeant Clifford Martin and Sergeant Mervyn Paice, and threatened to kill them. When the executions were carried out, the Irgun killed its hostages and hung their booby-trapped bodies in a eucalyptus grove near Netanya. //
Gromit, is your mis-spelling of the word "Israel" deliberate?
