Baroness Warsi Resigns

The first female Muslim Cabinet member resigns over daves Gaza policy. Brave woman as far as I am concerned. Lets hope more people protest and this government starts to pull its finger out over the Israeli policy of killing 1000's of innocent Gaza citizens.
Netanyahu has long passed the point of avenging the deaths of the three Israeli schoolboys. Enough already.

// And where is the voice in Gaza of opposition to Hamas? // Hamas fairly won free elections in Gaza but Israel did not recognise the fact. Fatah won the elections in the West Bank and Israel recognised that Government. So the Palestinians became 2 States, one in Gaza supporting Hamas, one in the West Bank supporting Fatah. That suited the israelis, the...

I suppose mikey will say Hiroshima and Nagasaki was unproportional. It stopped the war with Japan in it's tracks and saved thousands of allied lives should a ground attack on Japan been attempted. The difference is that the Emperor of Japan threw in the towel because he had more respect and concern for the people of Japan.Hamas won't throw in the towel because they don't give a fig about their own.Life is cheap to them and deaths make good propaganda for their terrorist cause.

I am not, I repeat, not a supporter of Hamas, but as Israel is a democracy, does this give it the right to commit atrocities on innocent children in Gaza ?
As a democratic nation, shouldn't they be behaving in a civilised fashion, rather than as a practitioner of war crimes ?
How many more 1000's of Palestinian people will Israel need to kill before you and others start to condemn Netanyahu ?

Mikey, Scooping's analogy is entirely relevant to a discussion about war, which is what we’re discussing. That said, there’s no doubt that the Palestinians have been treated appallingly. However, Hamas, continues its bombardment knowing that it will be met with retaliation, knowing that its own people will suffer the consequences of its actions, and if it has any sense at all, knowing that it can't win, so you must consider both sides of the argument. What is the solution?
"Should we have assessed German strength in Normandy before we launched D-Day? Should half of the Allied troops who liberated Sicily have been held back because of the relative weakness of Axis forces on the island."
1) We did assess the German strength to the best of our ability.
2) The battles you describe were between trained armies on a field of battle that were, roughly speaking, about as well equipped as each other. Whatever differences there were in equipment quality pales in comparison to the difference between a professional army versus defenceless schools or hospitals.
3) The adversary we were fighting had caused immense destruction in the UK and obliterated vast swathes of Europe. Hamas is a small terrorist group with electoral support
World War 2 does not offer us any guiding morals in this case. We have to think that through for ourselves. Israel is murdering children. The people responsible for that, ultimately, are the people who pull the trigger or push the button or whatever.
