On that point lindapalmara, I agree with you, as most people on here seem to do.
But let us examine why the Right-to-Buy legislation came about in the first place. It wasn't about letting people buy their Council house and fit a brand new white plastic front door. It was a badly disguised attempt by the Tory government of the time to persuade, by bribery, people to continue to vote Tory. The logic was that Labour councils charged less rates, as they were called back then, than Tory councils But that turned out not to be true. In Wales, we have a ruling Labour administration and yet our Council tax bills
( Rates by another name) are lower than in England. It was the same misplaced understanding that led to all our institutions to be hived off, the latest being the Royal Mail. Now we are paying through the nose for our Gas Electricity and Water, far in excess of what we were charged before.
But you can fool some of the people some of the time, etc etc, but by May 1979 it no longer worked.
