Sorry mate, there has been an eruption but it's sub-glacial, they have been experiencing harmonic tremors for a few days now, latest info we have is there is a sizeable plug of eruptable magma but that everything is sub glacial for now.... one fear is that if the eruption starts a major melt that could build a larger force eruption. As always with this kind of eruption details are sketchy because you can't see it, Vaac have met today to discuss and raised the alert to red

Perhaps I should have been more verbose and said "there's no actual dust cloud yet", which is what I meant.

The earthquake website has been showing a trickle of activity there in recent weeks, likely to be the magma chamber swelling up and or lumps of ice dropping into the caldera and making steam explosions.

What Icelanders are most fearful of is that sometimes there is no airburst but they get massive flash floods coming out of nowhere. It's like liquid concrete and knocks out bridges.

By oil and gas, do you mean offshore rigs? Near Iceland?

I didn't imagine there would be any deposits that close to the mid-atlantic ridge.

Or are you talking about rigs closer to home?

Closer to home mate, if there are restrictions on airspace the helicopters that fly to and from the platforms in the North Sea are grounded very quickly
