The Home Secretary and Labour are seeking the resignation of the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Shaun Wright.

He was in charge of Rotherham Social Services in his previous job. He left that job and got himself a new job. Should he have to leave his new job because of his failings in his previous employment?

Would you resign from your present employment if it was revealed that you were rubbish at one of your previous jobs?

I could understand calls for his resignation if he was still Head of Social Services.

But he quit 4 years ago.

He is now doing something completely different for a different employer. Why does he have to resign his present, elected post?

Because they were going to throw him out if he didn't resign.

Why has the Labour Party waited until now before getting all moral?
Why did they nominate him as their PCC candidate?

No. If he resigns then there will be no "pay off" but if he is sacked, then he will almost certainly get a "lump sum" which in the public sector may well be a "hefty" lump sum.

what was the position when he got his current job? Was his failure in the previous job known about; if it was, was the gravity of it known? If so it could be argued that he got the new job under false pretences. But I don't know the details.

It would depend on the second job. His second job is to ensure the Plod do well and they were up to their necks in it too so I consider this job he is in to be too close.

No doubt he is hanging on hoping to be fired so he can clean up like that other lovey piece of work Shoesmith.

Bankers are now held culpable, why are those in public service not?

bankers are now held culpable how?? How many are in prison? How many of them are no longer picking up seven-figure bonuses? Even while the country is bailing them out?

He was in charge of Child Safety, not Social Services.

5 men were convicted in Rotherham in 2010. 58 victims were identified.
Wright was elected in November 2012.

He should resign from his job as PCC with immediate effect. Everybody is calling for this, including the Labour Party, which is a former member of, and Teresa May. I could predict that as his position is now untenable, he will go very soon anyway.

But people falling on their swords is not going to provide justice for all those 100's of children that were targeted by these paedophiles. Something was drastically wrong in the Rotherham and we need to get to the bottom of this affair. Police and Social Services were quite clearly lacking in their duties, as has been found in other child abuse scandals all over the UK. I am still waiting for Butler-Sloss's replacement to be announced and this is down to dave and his Government. He should pull his finger out asap.

oh, he was one of the elected ones? No reason to resign, then, if people voted knowing his record. One of the effects of knee-jerk voting according to party, I expect: voters are entitled to be stupid.

jno....he was elected at a time when his background and involvement was not known..ergo it was not 100% valid

murraymints, gromit's post says 58 victims had already been identified. So someone could have raised the issue at election time. Maybe they did and the voters chose to ignore it, I don't know.

Yes he should - he is/has been responsible for two organisations in the area that have catastrophically failed the children (and parents) of Rotherham - and who knows about other W Yorks police services.......

If he had not gone into the current job or a job with linkage, then I would have said no.
