A Culture Of Arrogance

Why is it that when you talk to somebody in the yes campaign for independence they are so arrogant? There seems to be a culture of arrogance in the yes camp has anyone else found that?

Around 40% in polls seem to be in the yes camp pretty consistently, that is a considerable proportion of the population. I don't think that many people will just go away, maybe they wont win this time but they will push on one way or another. Unfortunately for the UK as a whole, particularly from a foreign investment point of view, that will be very detrimental.

I have not noticed this specifically but I suppose they are getting desparate. I mean the polls show them getting hammered. Even after giving the newly brainwashed schoolkids the vote they have no chance so one can understand how they are getting a little niggled. Sad as, regular readers will know I would like them to have their "independence".
I'm in the YES camp and will use my vote on the 18th. My reasons for voting yes have nothing to do with braveheart and freedom nor do I think I am arrogant. I am voting yes because I feel Scottish affairs should be in the hands of Scottish People. The voting papers don't have a party printed on them, just a simple YES or NO.
Because they have everything to gain and nothing to lose gordiescotland1 !
If it goes the way of the NO campaign, then they comfortably sit back down and carry on as before, with the considerable freedom that devolution has brought them. Devolution that came about as a result of Labour winning the landslide victory in 1997 I might remind everybody

yes I have Gordie - and yes they are arrogant.
the vice deputy sPM giving hell to the Northern Islanders.
The Northern Islanders DON'T want hoots-mon-indepayndence because they think rule from Aydinburgh will be worse than rule from London. And Jesus She was giving them hell on the grounds of " come on vote for me or else I wont have a job "
Alot of it seems to be a leap of faith
Alex and the lady are asking you for a leap of faith - that on voting Yes there really will be an answer for all those unanswered questions. Only we dont know what the answers will be until we get there....

I'm not sure that many people really doubt nowadays that it was right to give Wales and Scotland some devolution. Both countries see it as the only way that they can exist with constant interference from a Party that they showed no inclination to vote for. Even the Tory Party admit it was a good idea now, despite inexplicably forgetting to address the issue from 1979 until 1997.
If the vote does go with the YES group, which I doubt, it will largely be because of anti-Tory feeling north of the border.

Arrogance ? Yes, I suppose so - how arrogant to think that they can do at least as well, perhaps even better, than a clapped out ex-power huffing and puffing in distant corners of the world while manifestly falling behind much smaller nations in ways that really matter (infant mortality, life expectancy, health care, equality, poverty, women's participation, employment, etc., etc.). Having tried very hard indeed at the time to economically annihilate a minnow like Iceland, Brown and Darling are still trying to hold up the UK as some sort of preferable model - Iceland had 3.3% unemployment in July and has and is generally doing far better than the UK on all the above measures.
How dare the Yes camp suggest things could be better ? Go instead for The Emperor's New Clothes......no, make that Old Clothes.... and vote firmly NO. In reality, even the No camp know there is really no prospect of change within the UK, just continuance of the same hopeless mire - but at least there is certainty in that, to them comfortable certainty that soothes the endemic fear of change. They want to make little of comparisons with Austria, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, only four of which don't have their own currency. Slovakia democratically separated from the Czech republic a mere twenty years ago or so. There is no interest within today's Slovakia for reunion - and, notably, relations between the two are good, there was never any vindictiveness of the sort the (magnanimous ?) No camp has been threatening from the outset. A Yes outcome would be very interesting if only to see whether the UK will then behave as atrociously (surely not worse ?) toward Scotland as they did toward Iceland.
