// I think the police know it was him, jno.//
.... is not enough.
The police 'knew' the Birmingham bombers had 'done it'
and the police 'knew' ( because they told us) there was not problem in Rotherham.... and the Police knew that another plod had kicked that protester who later died and THEY were told to say nothing
that is, of course, why, we all know, we have courts.
and as you say N another mad convert so he may be found to be unfit to plead ( so not convicted of anything )

I suspect that some people have aligned themselves to a narrative which might be misleading.
When I read the story, I saw the part where he claimed that cats has stolen his lighter, so he beheaded them, before going on to kill this poor woman.
To me, that shouts paranoid schizophrenia, rather than any adherence to religious text.
I might be wrong, but at this stage, before we learn more about him (from family, friends, associates, fellow mosque attendees), it would be sensible to view 'Muslim covert' not as a principle driver, but as an element in his make up which may in fact turn out to be completely irrelevent.
The cat thing has me leaning towards 'serious mental problems', but we'll see...
