The immediate response in this house to hearing the story on R4 was 'Tough. You made your beds - lie on them!'

They'll come home much wiser young people chastened by their experiences. And they could serve as a warning to others who might have had the same romantic ideas of jehad.

Agreed Sandy -make use of them. Bring them home, de-radicalise them and send the out on an evangelical mission to persuade young people away form the horrors of Jihad. The other alternatives are leave them there or bring them home and jail them which costs money.

It would be an even stronger message to others if it were known how they rued their actions - but still suffered the punishment of exile.

I was thinking more along preventative lines rather than out of sympathy. Prevention is better than sure as they say, but I'm not actually adverse to leaving them where they are.

If they were to come back and tell of the terrible reality out there, some who'd considered jehad could well reconsider.

If, God forbid, this country allowed them re-entry they should return under this countries terms which are not negotiable. Their true loyalty, obviously ,is directed to other countries NOT this one. Can you really see Jihadist John spreading the gospel on the error of his ways and spreading the good word on the street corners here. There are more,probably, preachers of hate festering in the hundreds of mosques in this country than preachers of their so called faith. Internment and interrogation, Guantanemo style, in order to gain much needed intelligence about the pernicious mind set of the jihadist. Cut them off from friend ,family and the benefits they sacrificed by leaving this country and then threaten us with terror when they return. If not acceptable conditions to them let them rot in the new country of their choice and if they miss their families they can be invited to join them.

I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to walk home. Passing through all those countries on the way might open their minds to the natural kindness of people of all religions and none.

Why should they be allowed back to this country so they can be a mouth piece to other muslims in this country and persuade them of the horrors and folly of jehad. That SHOULD of been the job of ALL the Imans and Family Elders in this country plus all the Muslim council/committee members to stop them going in the first place.These so called elders and betters in this muslim faith are too bloody silent on this subject. This vermin got their say on Twitter,Facebook when in Syria and Iraq. They have NO rights in this country at all IMO.
