Gordie - I was in 5th year at Perth Academy.
hc - when it was first reported they reported the fire, then the possibility of injuries, then there were two or three dogs dead. It is a horrific way for anyone to die. Those poor dogs were there because us humans are not always good at caring for them. Awful.

There will be a lot of good come out of this. The charity will have a newly built dogs home with better facilities paid for by the insurance company and a huge boost to their bank balance thanks to the charitable donations.
Hopefully more dogs will find permanent homes over the few weeks not just from this dogs home but from others across the country.
Far, far more healthy dogs are put down by animal charities every year simply because there are too many to rehome than died in this fire. Maybe that will change now and puppy farms become less lucrative.

Godalmighty ... what is WRONG with people?
More of the professionally offended.
Something bad happens. A fire in a dogs home.
The situation is salvaged as best as we can. Money is donated. Dogs are re-homed. In the long term, things will improve.
Out of sadness, comes one little glimmer of a smile ... quite a funny joke.
But NOOOOOO!!!!
Sack him! Throw him in prison! Cast him out from society!
Jesus wept. He just made a joke.
He's not throwing the dogs on the fire!
We criticise Islamic extremists because, if you say something they find offensive, they viciously turn on you.
And then, a guy makes a joke that some people find offensive, and they viciously turn on him.
It's the mediaeval mob instinct. It's a level of intolerance that has no place in our modern society.
And save the "poor taste" nonsense. If we can't cope with subjective poor taste, then we are looking at a one way ticket back to the Dark Ages.

This story raises several interesting aspects of our culture.
As advised - any tragedy provokes 'tasteless' jokes - gallows humour always used by anyone in the emergency services to deal with the horrors they see every day. On a lesser scale, it is a way of difusing the horror of the given situation.
As also advised - social media means access to these jokes is instant and vast - with proportionate grief for any famous person who oversteps the mark - a luxury afforeded to the rest of us, but not the rich and famous.
As is clear, anything involving animals brings out a massive over-reaction from a seriously large number of people.
To address the question - I think it's not funny, i can understand Mr Sheppard's standard reaction - anyone not agreeing with something I think is funny is lacking a sense of humour - their problem, not mine.
And he has understood the outrage he has caused, and apologised and made a donation - I see it as careless use of media, called out, and dealt with.
Line drawn.
Move on.
