AYG - you assume she is a good teacher. The student would not be allowed to wear the scarf if the school didn't permit it.

I did assume she would be a good teacher (I believe a Muslim one at that), but even a teacher should be able to reprimand a pupil if she was being inattentive. The fact that the school allows them to wear a scarf is neither here nor there, had the scarf been disallowed in class it wouldn't have happened.

AYG - agree with you on disciplining but unless religious dress such as the headscarf is banned then the student has the right to wear it. Question is, was this teacher crossing the line into offensiveness?

Muslim women were originally instructed to cover their hair to discourage men from lusting after them – and so it continues. I walked behind a Muslim lady the other day – her head was wrapped in a scarf, but lower down she wore a skimpy short top and lime green leggings that clung so tightly to her form that not only was her VPL clearly in evidence, but also the shape of her bottom and legs. To be perfectly honest it wasn't a pretty sight, but so much for modesty. If this nonsense didn’t have such serious implications for the rest of us, one could almost find it amusing. If the teacher crossed the line into offensiveness, good for her. It’s high time we stopped kowtowing to manufactured offence.

Schools, police, children's services are a victim of their own policies with regard to ethnicity and diversity. As if these professionals aren't under enough pressure...

ag, our stalwart efforts to ensure that the foibles of the religious are respected and protected from criticism create more problems than they solve. Inevitably we end up climbing up our own bottoms.

What is WRONG with these people?
