For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I have never understood how a police officer can retire after possibly being involved in what might just look like some sort of a crime, or possibly serious neglect of duty, and then all suspicions just disappear. If I got up to no good, or seriously neglected some duty, I wouldn't expect to stop work, collect a generous pension and have everyone forget the problem. I'd expect to be held to account, even if I stopped being employed by the same employer.
