"It makes clear that we are always a Church of sinners called to repentance and conversion and in need of God's mercy." Translation: We can have our cake, eat it then apologise and move on having had the best of all worlds. Nice gig if you can get it.

I wonder how many of the Priests under this chaps control, were fiddling with children, while his eye was off the ball, and concentrating on his own sexual peccadillos ?

What wonderful role models these people are !

And what a wonderful role model you are for a Labour supporter !

You are getting tiresome now AOG. There is lots of other, more important things going at the moment...perhaps you should have a look around a bit.

/// The remark was for divebuddy, who I am fairly sure understood my little joke AOG, unlike you perhaps ? Would it help if I put "this is a joke" after every such post in the future ? I am always willing to help ! ///

"without this constant need to rudely describe them? "

Was a good give-away, how could your remark about the 'standing in the naughty corner' be considered as rudely describing whoever?

Your remark that you "retract nothing" and your attempt on turning this into a discussion on certain Catholic Priest's involvement in child abuse says even more about the type of person you are.

This particular Priest has apparently involved himself with two women, not a crime by any stretch of the imagination these days.

Yes he has broke his vows and consequently apologised and resigned from his position.

I wonder how many ordinary men or even women who have also made certain vows on their wedding days but then have later became unfaithful, have also apologised and resigned from their positions?
That is an utterly ridiculous analogy. This man is a Catholic priest. Think about it.
He's only human and succumbed to temptation. As far as we know he was in an adult relationship and hasn't harmed anyone. Sad rather than bad.
///He said his actions "were not illegal and did not involve minors".///
well that makes a pleasant change
If anything is sad and bad, it’s the vows he took.
True. The celibacy one places a greater strain on some than on others.
Update from the Spectator...: The Mail has now published its allegations against Bishop Conry. They’re much more serious than I imagined. He appears to have behaved disgracefully; by his own admission there is more than one woman involved. I’ll quote only the last paragraph, which goes to heart of the matter: the responsibility of the Catholic Church for allowing this man to run an important diocese during years of rumours, well-founded in at least two cases.

Clare Kirby, the lawyer for the estranged husband, said last night: ‘My client is considering pursuing a possible High Court action against the Catholic Church because they’ve known for years that the Bishop has been having affairs and if they’d taken action he almost certainly would not have lost his marriage and his children would not be having to be brought up in a broken family.’
^That will be one to watch!

If it had not been the Bishop it would have most likely have been someone else.
AOG, I think the man is saying that the church has a moral responsibility which it purposefully fails to uphold. It ignored serious crimes committed by its priests, just as it apparently ignores their less serious transgressions.
Cheers Mikey. :-)
"If it had not been the Bishop it would have most likely have been someone else."

But it WAS the bishop, he DID the deed and doubtless went about his daily life all piety and celibacy to the casual observer but in reality was a sexual predator with quite an appetite for horizontal jogging.

I wonder if this will even show up on Il Papa's radar or will it earn a mere 'madre de dios' as he gets on with the really evil stuff.
