The consensus seems to be that the middle ground is where the British electorate want to be. I said on another thread, the British public do not like extremes. The last time Labour were remotely left of centre it was lead by Michael Foot and resoundly thrashed in a General Election. Major and the Hague etal, positioned the Conservatives centre right after Thatcherism became too much for the public.
The Clacton result shows that a large number of voters feel disenfranchised by he three main parties. But I am not sure hat is true over the entire countey.
