There are always going to be nutters out there who behave like that. Overall my impression is that the comments have provoked balanced but opinionated debate on what is undoubtedly a sensitive issue.

The fuss over what she said is ridiculous. However there will always be a horde of the righteously angry desperate to be outraged at anyone who touches on a sensitive subject.

She saw it coming even as she was uttering the words, trying to build in disclaimers as she went along, but to no avail.

It is a sad fact that media like Twitter (I always think there is an incorrect vowel in there!) gives a voice to the impotently furious -but it can, and should be ignored.

I find it difficult to believe how someone who takes exception to Ms Finnigan's position thinks that threatening the same crime on her, and her innocent daughter, somehow makes a valid argument - but that encapsulates the bizarre thinking of a section of society who are given a voice by this rather pointless outlet.

I think a fair rule to apply in these cases is - the size of the mouth being opened will be in direct inverse proportion to the size of the brain controlling the thoughts that are about to come out of it!

I would suggest that the two situations are not the same - I did get carried away with my condemnation of Ms Finnigan - but I seriously doubt she will ever read my observation.

That is a world away from sending a violent threat directly into Ms Finnigan's Twitter account, with the express intention of her reading it - so I don't believe that the situations are the same.

I admit I let me temper get the better of me, but I do not think my comment could be considered even close to the vitriol that has been directly forwarded to Ms. Finnigan, and even more horrible, to Ms. Madeley.

I am unsure quite where you want to go with this.

You have called me out for being unpleasant, and I have agreed and apologised.

If I thought for one moment that Ms Finnigan was likely to read my observation, I would be happy to furnish her with a sincere apology.

Now where else exactly do you think this particular exhange between us is going to go now?
