So basically a young white female in a town where there as been a sustained period of sexual abuse on young white females, should run the risk of rape for fear of being branded a racist?

I would have to clarify that by saying that some cultural differences by some asians do add to the difficulties in a situation like this, but a tendency towards stereotyping is, to my mind, equally unhelpful.

I don't think you are wining this argument Andy, it is all a matter of feeling personally safe regardless of what one may call you.
I take it that given two choices of walking home alone through two districts late at night, one through a mainly white area with no record of crime, or one through an estate where there had been a record of black gang stabbings, you would choose the latter, simply because you had no wish to be deemed racist?
Even taking into account that all white people are not law abiding people and that all black people are not members of knife carrying gangs.

'Asians culture' is an enormously broad demographic.
It's like referring to 'white culture' - it's almost meaningless.

Would I rather swim in the Atlantic which is nice and warm, but which may have great-white sharks which are known to attack people, or in the Arctic, where i will freeze to death in ninety seconds, but there is zero risk of a shark attack?

I think that most people assess crime by the criminal, rather than the race of the criminal.
I would feel safer in Chelmsford than I would un Hastings. Both are 'white' areas, but Chelmsford has less crime and Hasting and Blackpool are basically...rough.
Similarly, I would feel safe walking through Brixton late at night, but much less so walking through Dalston. Both 'black' areas, but when you know the places you're travelling through, you tend to rely on your accumulated knowledge rather than racial profiling.
Same as with certain areas of Glasgow I've visited. Incredibly rough, and almost 100% white - but the roughness of the area had nothing to do with the race of the locals.
Some people do not understand this, and continue to base their prejudices on race alone.

In the Atlantic which is nice and warm? Obviously you have never swam off the West coast of Ireland or Scotland, and I also don't think one will come across many white sharks there.

A bit late, but still..... when I was teaching in Halifax a (male) member of staff reported a Pakistani taxi-driver to the police. He did so because he recognised the driver as one of our Yr 11 students (5th form). The boy was regularly employed by his uncle and was a big lad. The taxi firm was all properly licensed etc.. So, since then I have chosen to avoid Pakistani taxi drivers on the few occasions I have used taxis. Makes sense to me.
