No, but then I was paying 12 big ones a year until 16. Last one is 21 now so it's saucepan free 'olidies for me and the trouble.

Pity this headmistress doesn't follow the rules.

Her excuse, 'my private life is exactly what it says - private'

No providing that the holidays are taken outside Exam time, I can see nothing wrong in it, there are many days during a term that are wasted on silly walks in the park etc during a nice sunny day.

There are also families that have no choice when they can take their holidays, such as the Armed Forces etc.

Had to google rhyming slang for saucepans... Honestly its like trying to communicate with my neices but worse as this slang is ancient and even harder to decode.
At Primary school I think we pretty much always had a holiday in term-time. Only time we could afford it. Didn't really affect my education much, although it does depend on the child in question. Blanket rules against such holidays are wrong, I think, and I like the idea of headteachers/ teachers having a significant say as they'd be best-placed to judge if the child will be able to cope with the lost week.
I doubt that an occasional week out damages the education of an individual.

But uncontrolled, I imagine at certain times in the term, classes could be half empty with no process or guarantee that the absent kids will catch up when they return.

Much of the syllabus is sequential, so kids will then need additional help with later modules that assume they have covered the earlier parts. And without the catching up, teachers will find that by the end of the year most of the class could have a variety of gaps in their learning.

The timetables do not allow any time for that fr1gg1ng around.

use your loaf iggy!
No, I wouldn't.
Unless a child has poor attendance or is really behind academically I don't think it makes much difference.

It was never an issue in my day, never had a holiday anyway! these days families are much better off I guess, they can jump on a great dane and be on the out of reach in a few lizzy powers!
/chair of governors Kevin Hunter defended Mrs Winder's holiday and said: 'She made what we have judged to be a request for a week off during term time for personal reasons which we have judged appropriate.'/

we don't know what the woman's 'personal reasons' were so we can't judge whether a request regarding a pupil in similar circumstances would also be accepted.

Can't you just type standard English. Typing in slang doesn't make you look clever!!

Yes, I would take mine out term time depending on their age. Besides two days the school agreed to my son has 100% attendance.
After reading this I think I'll walk down the frog to the rub a dub, have a few Aristotles and pick up a Ruby on the way back.
/It was never an issue in my day, never had a holiday anyway! /

No. I'm wondering if the Southport Guest Houses bumped up the prices- I doubt it.

Mind you, we always took ours abroad in holiday time (not that long ago) and I don't recall the prices being inflated that much.
Really Zeuhl? They are seriously inflated.
I think the decision should rest with the individual Head Teachers as it used to - they know their pupils.

We occasionally clipped a day here or there but never longer, each case on it's merits.

I am not sure your understanding of Aristotle is the same as mine....
OG has the truth of it imo. My parents once took us on holiday immediately before exams and I missed the important revision lessons. As a result I was down streamed for a year and had had to work hard to get back into the top form the year afterwards.
One condition could be for the youngster to ask for work to do over the holiday though staff are loaded with tasks already without taking on another chore.
it isn't the education I am so worried about, it's the fact that I take my holidays in term time as I don't want kids around me
Aristotle has two meanings: on its own it rhymes with bottle but when joined up with glass as in bottle and glass it means a**e. Often shortened to just Arris.
