I'll wear it - I wouldn't say with pride, that's hyperbole in my book, rather as a token of respect. I'll also be wearing a purple one too.

Never heard of these purple poppies and had to look them up ! As an animal lover i would like to wear one but have never seen them on sale anywhere.

Methyl...while I support your views generally on UKIP, to describe Hitler as not a policy maker is flying in the face of credulity. He was absolutely at the centre of everything that the Nazi Party did, and when Hindenburg died, he made his move and became Dictator. Without Hitler, it can be strongly argued that WW2 may not have happened, at least with the severity that it did.

The red poppy appeal doesn't just apply to the 2 world wars, monies raised is also used for bereaved families, wounded Service men and women, younger veterans seeking employment and housing aswell as older veterans needing age-related care.

World War 2 is still within 'living memory' of a great many people so cannot yet be confined to past history in the same way as Waterloo or Agincourt.....

Also Red Poppies are worn to commemorate those who have died in all maner of conflicts since 1945....

Very true jack. I always make sure that I watch the parade on Remembrance Sunday. I feel a great pride every year.

I remember a couple of years ago, when I saw the children of British service personal that had died in recent wars, marching along with all the old soldiers...brought a tear to eye, I don't mind admitting.

TTT - my poppy, too, is several years old.
There don't seem to be the number of boxes around these days that there used to be. So I pin my poppy to my jacket and then make sure that I put a few coins in each and every box I see, but at least I make sure I am wearing a poppy...

I bet I am not unusual in that...
