In your own post you describe your nephew's indifference to same sex relationships. That would be the default for kids so why mess about with that? The subject disolves if there is no awareness that anything is not "normal".
That's not my reading of it, B00...
I see it as being as simple as introducing the fact that not all 'adult-pairings' are strictly M/F.....and that because they are not is no excuse to start bullying children of gay parents, or those school-friends 'suspected' of being gay.
It needs to be no more complcated than that.

One does have to wonder if there is an agenda to this.
People will always pick on something different, whether kids or adults no matter how much right-on teaching. In fact I suspect the right-on teaching could have the opposite effect.
little johnny gos home and starts spouting the stuf, pa then retorts with a different view, one that may not have been expressed if not provoked. Which view will little johny take back to school and tell is mates?

Svejk - "Would some GLBT? people rather miss their separateness, specialness, dare one say, victimhood status if they were totally accepted by everybody?"
I can't believe that anyone would seriously miss a 'victimhood' status.
That is the proposition who woould not know what being a victim felt like if it jumped up and bit him.

Hmmm
In reality, if pa holds those sorts of views he would no doubt already be installing them into little johnny - in which case the school will be providing some essential balance.
Regardless of that, i'm not sure the argument that schools shouldn't teach 'good behaviour' in case it provokes some parents to counter with encouragement for 'bad behaviour' really stands up for a second.
If that were the case, schools should stop teaching kids it's wrong to mug old ladies, just in case it provokes some parents to tell their kids the old dears deserve it and it's actually quite a good way to earn a few quid.
