I was surprised that the opening of the New World Trade Centre wasn't featured in last night's BBC news.

morning till. x. I haven't heard about it anywhere. Are you sure you have it right?
Perhaps they felt a low key approach safest.
Well the anti septic BBC wouldn't would it

Yes, sweety. I didn't dream it. Thank you for the link, aog.

We were there three weeks ago. The whole site is amazing.
"City officials have called it the"most secure office block in America"".
Oh dear, what an invitation.
It was on BBC World News.

Essentially, it is just a new building in New York. Minimal news interest to uk residents. It was not our our domestic news, but it was on News24 in their World News hour.

The Daily Mail ran the story on its website because it targets the US audience. Which is why it is the most viewed newspaper website in the world.

(Good to see the uninformed righties having a dig at the BBC even though they have the facts wrong).

Gromit, it is not just a new building. The whole Ground Zero site is much more than that.
"City officials have called it the"most secure office block in America"". Red rag to a Muslim!!

So no one can fly a plane into it?

nobody could smuggle bomb components into it?

nobody could release a virus into it?

Just like they could in many other buildings?

It is in a foreign country, thousands of miles away. There is minimal interest to a UK audience. Which is why the BBC tucked it away on its Foreign News segment of BBCNews24.

9/11 was a long time ago. We shouldn't forget it, but it is now a memory rather than being a contempory news story. You were lucky enough to recently visit the site, which has perked your interest in it. The majority of Brits have never been to the USA nevermind Ground Zero. So a new bit of real estate there is not very newsworthy.
I for one, will not be renting office space there!!
unless of course I become a Muslim, then I may feel the need!
Its my guess that the new building will make a whole new documentary program, all on its own.
It says in aog's link that they haven't had the 'opening ceremony' yet. When they do it will make the news headlines, I reckon.
It was on the BBC news channel yesterday and again this morning. 104 stories high and , I think, 60% let so far. It's now the tallest building in the USA.
Gosh...that's one very beautiful building.

'The majority of Brits have never been to the USA nevermind Ground Zero. So a new bit of real estate there is not very newsworthy.'

I don't think it matters whether you have been to the USA or not. Those of us who remember that terrible day will be interested to see what has been done to regenerate the devastated area and commemorate all those who lost their lives.

It is more than just a piece of real estate.
In 1978, I was in NY and went up to the top floor of the WTC. I was even allowed on the roof. The picture I took of the twin towers is framed on my living room wall. It was a fantastic experience. There are plenty of skyscrapers that you can travel up in America but to get onto the roof, in the open air was a wonderful surprise.
It is more relevant to US viewers because the terrorist attack was in their soil and most of the victims were US citizens. I am not saying it is unimportant, just that there is less interest in the UK. Just like we might commemorate theBattle of Britain, but not the attack on Pearl Harbour.

ok Gromit. I don't want to argue with you. I was just disappointed that we didn't get to see the buildings and the pools again. I'll have to go back to New York and have another look.
In the complex, they are building a structure that looks like a dove ascending from the ground. I'll go and have a look when it's finished.

Mikey, we went to the top of The Rockerfeller Centre and went outside on the roof. It was spectacular.

My favourite places were The Chrysler Building and Grand Central Station.
All that Art Deco!
