132 Children At Risk From Abuse In Brum

Have I missed something here ? If the Council can be so certain that there are 132 kids at risk from sexual exploitation, why has it not moved to protect them ? Shouldn't the Police and Social Services be running around the city as I type, rounding them up and taking them to a place of safety ?

A lot of them are already in a 'place of safety'- in the care system.

It is illegal to lock children up (unless they have committed a crime), tie them to their beds, physically restrain them. If children walk out the door (or the window) there is very little that can be done except report them missing (again and again and again, usually).

The children are picked up by police and returned to the care system where they walk out the door again.

Exactly the same for parents - with the exception that if the children are reported missing too often it is very likely the children will be removed from the family and put in to the care system. Where they will walk out the door.

Care homes have long been magnets to older men who wish to abuse the children and perhaps put them on the game. It was certainly going on in the 1970s and it is still going on now.

What solution can you come up with?

If all this true, then its no wonder that thousands of children are sexually abused. If some of these children, at least, are in "care" then I think it should be the Councils job to restrain them. If they are being abused, as the Council have said, then it shouldn't be a problem to get a Judge to assist, if indeed legal assistance is needed.

divebuddy, thankfully the situation is LOTS better than it was in the 1970s. Then these children, boys as well as girls, were regarded as tarts, prostitutes, trouble by the police, the schools and the care system.

I would rephrase the question as to why the police and social services arnt running around the city rounding up abusers?
My own involvement with social services and child care from a few years ago has convinced me to NEVER have anything to do with social services ever again. The ones that Ive had dealings with were sociopaths by any ones reckoning. (and liars)

HC.......these girls were thought to be "tarts" a lot more recently than the 1970's ! It isn't "lots better" at all...not in any shape or form. According to Mrs May, child sexual abuse is "rife" in Britain today, and I don't doubt it for a minute.

I have not suggested chaining any child up to the radiators...just that they should be looked after properly, especially if they are already known to be at risk. That is the conclusion of all the recent court cases, and Enquiries. If the SS can't do the job properly, than they should be made Wards of Court and kept secure. And safe.

Mikey, I wouldnt pee on the SS if they were on fire m8. They give me a year of hell over something which never happened while wilfully ignoring genuine abuse. Another thread for another time perhaps but they are as bout as useful as rubber lips on a woodpecker! Get them into parliament, that place is rife with child abusers.

mikey, I agree wholeheartedly that sexual abuse of children is rife today.

The point I was making that nowadays those children are considered to be victims, in the 70's they were considered to be the problem.

That is how the situation is lots better today.

And my point is that they may be recognised as being victims but still nothing is being done. There is hardly a week that goes by when we don't have cases of paedophile activity in Britain. This latest news from Brum is typical of the response that we get from the "authorities" They throw their hands up in despair and make excuses. EG :::

"Oh well, we can't do anything about it because of this, that, and the other"

Children are being raped every day in Britain, boys as well as girls, and yet we still get the same excuses...chaining to radiators, etc. There has been a large Enquiry announced in the summer, and we still haven't got anybody to Chair it. It just isn't good enough and the sooner we take matters seriously, and actually do something, rather than pretend to do something, the better.

What would you do about a girl who refused to go back home (whether that be with her family or within the care system)?

It depends what age she was. If she under the age of 16, and was out of control and she was in danger of being used by dozens of men and being raped, the Local Authority should ask for her to be made a ward of Court and kept in a secure unit. And if were her parent, I would asking for that to be done and in the mean time keep her locked up in the house.

The alternative is to let her abused...what would you prefer ?

I don't like the idea of punishing the victims. It could lead to a deeper distrust of authority and make them rebel even more.

I assume you do mean a secure unit where they aren't allowed out?
