Why is it that if you don't condone the actions of these women you are presumed to be anti Breastfeedin g? I am a great supporter of breastfeedin g,have fed all four of my children but don't agree with the original woman who kicked up a fuss in Claridges, nor do I agree with the silly demonstratio n this woman's supporters thought necessary. Its for publicity but...

Hi, Boxy....I know many women dress a bit too scantily in the summer....but for me going into a shop and seeing an overweight man bare chested and dripping sweat onto the lettuces is far worse than any mother breastfeeding discreetly..or even indiscreetly come to that........but as said before....it's the strange and confused attitude some have to breasts and breast feeding that is to be pitied....
Out of the many photos on this and all the other threads, I have yet to see one that shows anything offensive. That includes the original of the young mum in Claridges. She's well covered,as are all the demonstrators. So really...what is the problem?.I don't think there is a woman alive who wants to 'expose' herself when giving her baby a feed. To accuse any mum of being an exibitionist,or of having an 'agenda' is just a cheap shot. Maybe its about time that those premises that do have a problem with even discreet feeding, provide a suitable area in which to do it....NOT the toilets.. None of us would eat where we wee....why should we feed an infant there?

/// We see far worse on the beach in the summer ///
How many times is this failed analogy going to be rolled out?
It is not about the fact that people object to the sight of breasts, it is all a matter of respect for others, etiquette, and decorum.
Certain actions are not appropriate in certain surroundings.

In spite of the horror shown by many on here...the law is behind the mother.....sorry

Breastfeeding in public (restaurants, cafes, libraries etc.) is protected under the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 under the provision of goods, facilities and services section. If the child is under six months old, the mother has additional protection under a 2008 amendment to the act which protects maternity rights. This is superseded by the Equality Act 2010 which clarifies that a business must not discriminate against a woman who is breastfeeding a child of any age in a public place.[26][27] Her companion(s) are also protected by this act.
A 2004 UK Department of Health survey found that 84% (about five out of six people) find breastfeeding in public acceptable if done discreetly; however, 67% (two out of three) of mothers were worried about general opinion being against public breastfeeding.[28] To combat these fears in Scotland, the Scottish Parliament passed legislation safeguarding the freedom of women to breastfeed in public in 2005.[29] The legislation allows for fines of up to £2500 for preventing breastfeeding of a child up to the age of two years old in public places,[30][31]

Ah now we are finally coming to the gist of the matter it is the fact that some women have been criticised.
There are also many overweight women to be seen in low cut tops, also dripping their sweat into the lettuces etc. to say nothing of those who seem to flaunt their advanced pregnancies for all to see in their low-cut jeans and crop tops, don't they make maternity smocks any more, which the more discrete future mothers used to wear in the past?
Now dives for cover with steel helmet securely placed on one's head.
