However it could be said our "generous" benefits system does encourage people to stay on the dole, have more children etc.
It could also be said that our generous benefits system encourages more immigrants (legal and otherwise) to this country.
I would certainly vote for any party that said they would take a SERIOUS look at reducing the benefit bill. Also any party who would take on more staff to hunt out benefit fraudsters.
I have always been of the opinion that elections are decided by the votes of those 65+. Keep them happy and you're on a winner. Try to take away any of their benefits and you are committing electoral suicide.
I am rather wary of Tory ideas. When they privatized energy we were supposed to be getting cheap fuel bills as there would be more competition. They are now privatizing the NHS. Now if I looked at the American Health Service and found it to be good and cost efficient I would agree but it is one of the most expensive in the world. The Tories appear to prey on the poor and ignore big businesss' responsibilities.
The majority of Welfare spending is the State Pension. They have made £20billion savings by cutting everything else, so if they want to make additional savings, then a cut in the pension bill is the obvious candidate.
It doesn't sound like vote winner to me, but I'm not a Tory voter.
Well, it's not popular with me and I pay my taxes. I would also rather stick pins in my eyes than vote Tory, whatever idea they came up with. Can't they see that people are already struggling? He should be trying to improve the economy and enabling more people to get jobs, so that fewer of them need to claim benefits.
