Lady Jenkins apologises having declared that one of the principal causes of food poverty was that “poor people do not know how to cook”.

Is she right or wrong about the cooking skills of the UK....?

Secondly 4 million tonnes of food are wasted in this country because customers are so picky. How do we change this? Or how do we divert some of it into the foodbanks - a quarter of it would make a huge difference? Ideas?

Perhaps the problem is also that some poor people are unwilling to make the effort to cook as well. Shame... but it does sound like the premise for an interesting cookery-based television show. Could be called something like Won't cook/ can't cook"...
On what evidence is that based Jim360? I thought you were a scientist.
You surprise me and validate my rant in some ways.
May I be paid for hosting it jim360?
I was trying to set up an awful joke. My post was not meant to be taken seriously at all.
bang on frognog

I don't suppose it ever ocurred to Lady Jenkins that the biggest cause of food poverty might be poverty
:) Jim360. Thanks.
:)
Oh, ans sorry Jim360. I meant to say sorry too. I didn't realise it was a joke. :)
Still, it does put me in mind of a genuinely new idea for a TV show, for politicians as the main contestants. Could be called "Can't stop and think before I open my big mouth and say something utterly stupid..."
How could it possibly Humbersloop. She thinks poverty is not having a lady who does.
jim :) :) :)

Now yer talkin'! ;)
That could be on every day with no repeats.
I feed my family well without spending a fortune (I could probably feed them for less) but I have got the time on my hands to cook from scratch and enough wit about me to spend my money well. I don't suppose I would put much effort into it if I was working numerous low paid jobs.
Sherrardak has a point. If you are on minimum wage at £6.50 an hour and working 40 hours a week to make ends meet, there is not a lot of time for cooking from scratch.

Here we come, Bouncer, especially for you - I thought you were related to her.....

just kidding - or am I?

Lol
Just to correct matters, her name is Lady Jenkin, not Jenkins. Confusion could otherwise arise between the widow of Roy Jenkinsand that of Sir Bernard Jenkin; opposite ends of the political spectrum

Thanks for that, Blackadder, a correction worthy of Peter P.
Happy to oblige.
motivation. I would think being '' poor'' also removes your motivation to do much !!!!
