Why are people afraid of, and frowned upon for, speaking out against Muslim extremists? They don't have any qualms doing much worse to the rest of society

I don't understand it. The people that defend Islam are usually the ones that have slated Christianity for years. The trouble with Islam it's predominately a religion practiced by non-whites. This creates a clash of moral sensibilities within people that are against religion but don't want to appear to be racist.
I am quite happy to support and defend any religion, as long at it doesn't advocate violence and mayhem.
The actions of a minority of Muslims are giving the religion a bad name and only making it easier for racists and bigots to pretend that because there are a few rotten apples in the barrel, all Muslims must therefore be the same. The actions of the IRA were clearly not advocated and supported by the vast majority of Catholics, although a similar tarring with the same brush was evident after such outrages as the Birmingham pub bombings.....the IRA were Irish, and therefore all Irish must be murderers.
Its this one size fits all approach which is feeding the growing racist movements in Britain today, and it needs to be combated.

I don't think anyone are saying all Muslims are the same, so you can put away the usual Bigot and Racist labels away, as this type of thing answers the OP's question fully.
But it is perfectly reasonable for people to be wary of the followers of a faith that have committed many acts of barbarism recently. Yes the peaceful one's are going to take a certain amount of flack but that can't be helped because how can anyone possible know who are the militant ones and who are not, if push came to shove how many of the peaceful ones would side with the militants?
If you or anyone else could answer that question then we would go a long way to knowing where we stand.
