It looks as if its going to be an offence to smoke in a car with children. I am all for it and I know some on here, like T³ hates smoking as well. But what do the rest of us think ?

Put simply, do you think subjecting children to cigarette smoke in a car is a good thing or not ?

You really don't hear much about it; however, the people I've spoken to, even the smokers, think that it's an excellent policy.

That's good to know Stuey...perhaps there will be an outbreak of common sense over here as well !

By the way, what is it like weather-wise with you at present ? My friends in New Hampshire haven't really started their winter weather yet...not much snow and no ice-storms yet (fingers crossed ! )
How dyou get kids out of cars.....
We had about 6" a few days ago, but it's mostly gone now because of temperatures just above freezing and lots of rain...I forget what the sun looks like:)
Child abuse in my opinion

Wrap up warm Stuey ! I am in Cornwall at present and the weather isn't that much better, although snow is a rarity this far in the Southwest.
As I said in the other thread I don't know why it's necessary. Well I do know really, smokers are smelly selfish idiots who don't even care about their own children.
Smokers should not be allowed to drive...or have children...or breathe IMO.
How very nasty of you Gingejbee
Slightly off piste - I remember when I was growing up - I was a teenager in the seventies, everyone around me smoked all the time, I was a real rarity in not smoking or drinking - and I accepted it as the way things were.

Now, I look at smokers, and I think how singularly strange their habit is.

Of course, it's all learned behaviour - everyone holds their cigarette the same way, pulls the same face as they exhale, flick the ash in the same manner, but I wonder if they ever stop to consider just how odd it looks to smoke?

It really is a most ludicrous habit - it has absolutely no redeeming qualities about it whatever - it looks stupid, it smells vile, it costs a fortune, it turns you into a social pariah, and it kills you.

How on earth do people embark on this mad behaviour?
Snap Andy, exactly the same as me, I never ever even tried it, I don't even like touching them, I thought the whole thing was disgusting from an early age. No amount of peer pressure could override that.
We are in agreement on this, andy......you are basically saying smokers should be tasered?
Talbot - " ... you are basically saying smokers should be tasered?"

Er no, I think that's a bit drastic for a silly habit!
Smoking anywhere, everywhere, should be banned. That will NEVER happen though
It's been an offence in Oz for sometime now.
Both Mrs Oz and I smoke, as soon as we had our first child we banned smoking in our house, car or anywhere near a child.
Common sense really.
I would love to see the law enforced better than it is.
Good thing.

Besides, it's dangerous and distracting for a driver to smoke, effectively driving one handed.

I just don't understand why people do it.

These same people take flights abroad and manage to go without smoking. How come they can't manage a short car journey?

Same for parents smoking at the school gates. You see them smoking away knowing they only live 5 mins from the school. I know smoking is an addiction but it's not like they'll be getting withdrawal symptoms.
"In my view smoking in cars should be banned period."

Where do you stop though? What about eating? Changing a CD? Searching for a radio station?

I'm amazed that anybody would ever smoke in their car if they have children in their with them - but let's be honest here, we are talking about chavs, aren't we? They are the only people I have ever seen smoking in cars with children.

Does anybody really think making it illegal is going to stop them? If anybody does they are seriously deluded
Have you ever noticed the amount of smokers puffing away outside your local cardio unit?
I think most smokers have one big regret.
