Westbrook, the greedy US were planning to make several families homeless in the New Era housing estate in East London, some before Xmas, but it has now backed down under pressure. It just shows what ordinary people can do when they get together and organise. Congratulations to them all.

But surely rents for private accommodation should already be at market prices ? That is why we build, and are not so stupid as to sell, council housing; to supply those that the area still needs to work locally, and who will not earn enough to afford the market price ?

London has a particular problem, in that our poorest paid but essential workers are finding it almost impossible to live anywhere within easy reach of their jobs. Anyway, this American company, is already in trouble on their side of the Atlantic for dubious practises :::
