I'll never forget watching him strut on stage during a Wet Wet Wet rendition of A Little Help From My Friends and showing the ever-grinning Marti Pellow how the song should be sung. One of my earliest courtships was played out to his Delta Lady.

I saw him the 80's in small theatre in Sheffield. He sang You are so beautiful to his mother sitting in the circle.. Lumpy throat time.. The Mrs saw him with Clapton, ZZ Top and Nine Below Zero... Not a bad line-up,eh.

I'm with others as to Delta Lady. I loved his gravelly voice
and the arrangement by Leon Russell with the gospel piano
made it a classic.
