It was a pledge that every paper of whatever allegiance picked up on. Pretending it was never made is incredible. Here's another reference to it: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2851521/Cameron-s-pledge-cut-net-migration-lies-tatters-figure-soars-260-000.html...

The 'Quote' we're referring to, does not come from that Mail Article, (similar content but not the right one), but is an edited version of two or more paragraphs from another Paper.
Oh dear, oh dear! What straw-clutching! Did Cameron or did he not promise he'd cut net immigration - "No ifs, no buts" - or didn't he?
The answer is 'Yes.'
Has he?
The answer is 'No."
Why would any rational being believe his new plan for immigrants?
Speak to your pedantic friend QM, he who sees quotes where none exist!
Amphilogiai, if you're referring to my quote, I provided a specific link to the BBC website. It had nothing to do with the Mail or "another paper". In adition, I had no idea we AnswerBankers were not supposed to extract and combine the most relevant parts of any such link-material to make our point, provided we did not distort the key point of the quote. That key point was a crystal clear promise from Cameron and his use of the phrase, "no ifs no buts" in support of it.
If it actually happened, and it did, in what way was it a leftie rant?

You can debate the precise order of the wording, but it was clear that Cameron had set this target, and equally clear that he has failed to meet it.
Gromit...pay attention to Teacher !...you don't want to be told a third time now do you !
// Cameron making election promises on immigration that he knows he cannot keep. When he misses the target (which he inevitably will) it will be someone else's fault. //

Naomi, when Cameron made his pledge he was fully aware that the 'flood gates from Europe' we're about to open. It is not I who is disingenuous, it was Mr Cameron.

// he flood gates from Eastern Europe hadn’t been opened rendering it impossible for Cameron to meet his original targets //

In other words, someone else's fault.

Cameron will not be able to remove European migrants who fail to get a job in six months, so he shouldn't pretend he can. Just like he couldn't deliver on only tens of thousands of migrants.
//Pretending it was never made is incredible//
Who's doing that then jim?

YOU, Ampi
farrier, you really need to understand what you read!
Gromit...."Cameron will not be able to remove European migrants who fail to get a job in six months, so he shouldn't pretend he can. Just like he couldn't deliver on only tens of thousands of migrants"

Well said !
There’s no doubt he made the pledge and under this government immigration from outside the EU has fallen by a third – but since then Eastern Europe has entered the equation and over that we have no control. Hence, unless we change the rules we’re currently obliged to adhere to, no one can control immigration.

Mikey, And you’re the one who bangs on constantly about civilised debate! Don’t be so damned rude!
naomi...I wasn't being rude...I was being sarcastic. You are constantly telling me that people should be allowed to disagree with me. I might remind you that the same applies to you ! Stop sucking those lemons !
Ok, i suppose I'll have to use the usual quote...

Q: how can you tell when a politician is lying ?

A: His/her lips are moving

they are liars by nature, they couldnt do the job if they werent, its the no 1 prerequisite to be a politician....most have never had any experience in the fields they love to spout off about
bazwillrun

/// and then youll have labour wrecking the country as they always do... ///

Yes but look on the bright side Baz if Labour do get in and once again wreck the country, look at all the fun we will have rubbing the Lefties noses in it?
Don't forget the fun you can have in the next four months doing some pre-emptive nose-rubbing!

/// naomi...I wasn't being rude...I was being sarcastic. You are constantly telling me that people should be allowed to disagree with me. I might remind you that the same applies to you ! Stop sucking those lemons ! ///

Can you tell us if that is being sarcastic, or you just being damned rude?
The Conservative Election Manifesto 2010 - page 32

// We do not need to attract people to do jobs that could be carried out by british citizens, given the right training and support. So we will take steps to take net migration back to the levels of the 1990s – tens of thousands a year, not hundreds of thousands. //

It is there in black and white - tens of thousands a year. In the manifesto.
Gromit...don't confuse people with the truth, if they have already made their mind up !
Naomi.
The EU was enlarged in 2004 to admit 10 new countries, 7 of whom were former eastern bloc countries. It is extremely misleading to claim the flood gates from eastern Europe opened AFTER Cameron made his election promise in 2010.

Bulgarian and Romania were admitted in 2007. Again, Cameron would have known that these countries workers would be eligible to come here in 2014. To claim this was not foreseeable when he made his pledge, is again misleading.
