Henrietta is not running scared or fearful of Islam. She is advocating caution in the knowledge that a very small minority of Islam's adherents are murderous fanatics.
Charlie Hebdo have put the lives of its employees and of serving police officersat risk, by deliberately goading dangerous murders. It was brave of them, but now 12 people are dead.
I am sure the people in the Charlie Hebdo magazine office had great faith in the police to protect them. But they, and several policemen are now dead.
There will now be a right wing backlash across Eurpope.
Got there at last! (Phew, I was losing faith!)
"Charlie Hebdo have put the lives of its employees and of serving police officers at risk, by deliberately goading dangerous murders."
Should a new law be passed or a cautionary warning be passed around warning others of deliberately goading dangerous murderers or would this be giving in to terrorists even though this isn't goading terrorists but is insulting a religion with the terrorists then taking action?
Basically if we went to India,Thailand or Brazil and we defaced the Christ, Buddha or one of the many Hind gods then it's very likely that we would be lynched and killed long before the police got us to a court so should we have a more repspectful stance on others religion? A "We wouldn't do that over there so let us not do this over here" kinda thing?
Depicting the Prophet Mohammed naked will be very funny to many. But it is offensive to many as well. We are aware from previous murders that extremists see attacks on their religion as an excuse for murderous revenge. It shouldn't be that way, but the people we are dealing with are not rational or interested in free speech.

I prefer Private Eye's approach of attacking the hypocrisy of the leaders and funders and armers of terrorists. Attack the real villains, not their made up deity.
Rabelais: "l'appétit vient en mangeant"
Will: "...as if increase of appetite had grown by what it fed on".
Concession will make them hungrier. Why would you think, Henrietta, that believers in jihad will stop until they achieve the domination over the kaffir which (their literal reading of the) holy book ordains??
What did the magazine actually tweet?

Not that I think they shouldn't be free to tweet what they want. The attack is in absolutely no way justified.

But there's something that I find really odd about this story which relates to timelines and the fact that four of France's top political cartoonists were murdered.

It suggests that this was planned well in advance - it doesn't fit that it was a spur-of-the-moment reaction...
Well the prophet Mohammed is the leader of a religion that apparently states death to non believers and that Jews should be wiped out and Muslims should not befriend non Muslims etc etc etc and then we have" Peace to All and Hatred to None" on our local mosque as well as being a ROP. That is all a mockery and worthy of being mocked.
Wasn't the Life of Brian a mockery of Jesus on the cross. How many people were slaughtered in this country when that was screened? Now which in this modern day is the real ROP when you have that comparison.?

The religion is based on the Quran, and the Quran says no such thing, quite the opposite. The Arab nations dislike Israel, and therefore the Jews, because the modern state of Israel is squatted on land which the Arabs also had a claim. politics not religion is the cause of the untagonism.
The Quran is remarkably similar to the Bible in prophesying the Jews will return to Israel before the last judgement....

"Pharoah sought to scare them [the Jews] out of the land [of Israel]: but We [Allah] drowned him, together with all who were with him. Then We said to the Israelites: 'Dwell in this land. When the promise of the hereafter comes to be fulfilled, We shall assemble you all together [in the Land of Israel in the End of Days]".

[Qur'an: Sura 17, "The Night Journey", verse 103]

Very interesting previous thread. Did you read it?Pretty much says what I wrote earlier and exactly what many other abers have said. So we are all wrong about the aims and views of Islam are we?
BTW you side stepped my question an another thread about churches and mosques. I wonder why.
'' The religion is based on the Quran, and the Quran says no such thing, quite the opposite.''
So if the quran says not to kill people, who is it referring to in the sentence 'and kill them wherever you find them'.
"The religion is based on the Quran, and the Quran says no such thing, quite the opposite".
The person who wrote this has never read a single sura of the Koran.
Charlie Hebdo, unlike Le Canard Enchaîné (France’s answer to Private Eye), pushes satire to the boundaries and sometimes beyond.
This is the battle hymn of ISIS. They did not make it up. I did not make it up. Guess where it came from. I won't give you the exact reference - the uninformed can do their own research.
"In truth, the punishment of those who make war against God and his messenger and roam the earth corrupting it, is that they be killed, or crucified or have their hands and feet amputed, alternately, or be exiled from the land. This would be their shame in the present life, and in the next a terrible torment awaits them - except those who repent before you have gained mastery over them Therefore , you must understand that God is all-forgiving, compassionate to each"..

"Fight those who do not believe in God or the Last Days, who do not hold illicit what God and His Messenger hold illicit, and who do not follow the religion of truth from among those given the Book, until they offer up mthe tribute, by hand in humble mien.
The Jew say Ezra is the son of God, while the Christians say Christ is the son of God. That is what they say, from their very mouths, thereby agreeing with the speech of the unbelievers who came before. May God strike them down!."
Just another quotation from a book pervaded by with hate and intolerance. Little wonder that some of those who take this stuff seriously do what they do.
And, having just read your post, yes, Divebuddy.
