Would you like to see the burka banned? I consider it a threat to national security, apart from anything else

if you can't show the world your face as a matter of your own choosing, how are you human?
It is also interesting to note that since the whole debate re the Burkha etc, more and more young women are choosing to wear it.
I don't care for any religion but respect individuals rights to practice their faith but this is too much and does indeed look menacing/intimidating and inherently wrong in Western society:

mamya, are you sure that's the burka, rather than the niqab or the hajib?
In my experience Burka wearers don't speak to us.
No.

Yes.
I got moaned at for wearing shorts in Jordan. Obvious there was nothing to hide, as opposed to a burka which can hide weapons as well as sex of occupier. When in Rome........
"It is also interesting to note that since the whole debate re the Burkha etc, more and more young women are choosing to wear it. "

Indeed so. And many more "traditional Moslems" frown at it.
I have had arguments with Moslems who want to ban the wretched thing themselves, using the arguments of common sense above - because it boils down to that in the end
I think this is a bit knee jerk, like the DDA.
You are correct Humber- my etc was not clear - I meant facial coverings.

I guess I am too relaxed about these things, I see them often and indeed do have the occasional conversation too.
Whats the head scarf thing called? Where it looks like they have another head on top of their
Own head then wrapped in a tight scarf.
The hajib is a scarf which leaves the face uncovered. The niqab is a veil which covers the face apart from the eyes. The only word I can think of to describe the burka is a "onesie".
The burka should be banned as it hides the identity of the wearer as well as weapons. Naturists hide nothing.
"And does indeed look menacing/intimidating"

Well that's subjective and down to the individuals own fears and anxiety.
-----------------------------
It's certainly upsetting and scary when seen by young children.
I remember 45 years ago working in a very smart dept. store in Oxford Street , you know the one, and when the women arrived in Burkas, we had to keep our eyes pealed ( peeled ?)

Ah yes but that Mrs Hoskins from No 43, who's gone out shopping again in the nuddie: what's she got in that pram with the trailing wires ...
If a child is initially alarmed, you explain and take away the fear.

You can hide weapons in all manner of clothing and baggage.
No!!!
