Doctor Prosecuted For Fgm.
http:// www.bbc .co.uk/ news/uk -308860 77
It has been said here on AB that not enough prosecutions are being made for FGM in Britain, so lets hope that this is the first on many. ( many prosecutions, that is, not FGMs )

When she was 24 years of age, 18 years later, during childbirth, the scar of FGM split. ( the narrative said that the stitches split, but after 18 years there would have been no stitches)
Now, with a gaping wound, what was the Junior Registrar to do.....leave the wound gaping OR sew it up?
He sewed it up.
I look forward to hearing the case for the defense.

I will not hold my breath until the UK stops fighting shy of upsetting the sensitivities of other cultures in this country in the name of political correctness. We do not hold with FGM, forced marriages or honour killings in our culture and neither sharia Law.. When these stone age and barbaric practices attract robust judicial penalties for infringement in this country then, and only then, should young women feel safe.
Seems to be a good and necessary service. From the link:
"NHS staff will not judge you and will treat you with respect. They will do their best to treat the medical problems caused by FGM. However, they do have a legal duty to protect children and will therefore take action if they think a young girl may be at risk of FGM."
To my mind, the more that is known about who has had FGM the more likely it is that their daughters can be monitored and the parents prosecuted if FGM is performed on them. Hopefully these units will also educate the women and help prevent more girls suffering like that.

All male babies in North America (including Canada) used to be circumcised regardless of religion . Its becoming less popular now but my two sons had to be 'opted out' from getting cut.
