Well ok, not for 2015 but possibly after. Is this a good idea or would it lead to massive abuse?

To quote somebody else 'No, no, NO!'. Huge potential for fraudulent voting. Disenfranchising for those either not computer literate - or not even owning a computer (I know quite a few) - or in areas with slow connections which can let you down in a short time period. Repeat NO!
I don't think (I hope anyway) that the idea is for compulsory online voting, although the concept of "IT illiteracy" I am sure will one day be meaningless.
Thanks New Judge
I am sure that there will always be scope for abuse no matter what the system. I share your concerns, and I think there is a lot to be said for a system where one "exercises one's democratic right" in public and yet in private, if you see what I mean.
Most electoral fraud of course takes place in private, but it should not be assumed that current systems are immune. Huge fraud can and does take place in certain countries with stuffing of ballot boxes, "voting parties" at workplaces, etc etc.
A few years ago a friend of mine in Ukraine, well aware of how abused the system was there, saw online voting as a way around it and came up with one of the first online voting systems (never implemented)
Of course here we like to think that we don't have those issues to the same extent.
