We pacified Hitler, look what that led to

Islington takes pork off school menus / Hitler invades Czechoslovakia... good point!
Forgot to get back to my main point which was that it was about waste and therefore it IS about costs.

Pork may be cheap but that's missing the point. Pork going in the bin is very expensive.

James Martin did a TV series about improving hospital food and it was the same problem there - uneaten food going in the bin was eating up the budget and stopping things from being improved.
Good solution, Jourdain.

The meat industry might beg to differ. Remember that the whole point of sausages is to recover money for the scraps of meat which can't be made into a recognisable or attractive 'cut' of meat or a joint.

Presumably Jelly will have to be struck off the dessert menu, too?

From the council’s website, 'An Islington Council spokesman said, "It's not true that pork is banned in our primary schools.

"It is not currently provided in our catering contract, but if any primary school wants to serve pork we will work with them to arrange it."'

I suppose, since the pig farmer vote is rural-based and thus 'Tory by birth', Labour think they have nothing to gain by pandering to the lobbyists who ate trying to get primary schools eating their sausages? The shires will remain blue and the inner cities will be the only places where Labour can win at all.

And, even then, only by this level of pandering ('bribery' isn't quite the right word).

Many Jainists refuse to eat root vegetables.
Hindus don't eat beef.

^^^Or to put it in plain English, for the not too swift, it is banned.
Would like to see the menus for one week
You can click on a link here - not sure whether this is pre Pork issue or not.

Are these meals supplied free to the staff and students?
1ozzy, some pupils will be entitled to free school meals based on income - re staff, I have no idea.
^ Based on their parent's income
Just wondered Mamya. Over here all students either take a packed lunch or pay for it on the day, staff alike.
Never have I seen a canteen menu offered at any school quite like the one you posted.
I'd like to have lunch there!!!
Ah I had forgotten the latest scheme where I think children get their meals free till a certain age - haven't got those details though.
Yes seems like a decent enough choice , certainly to me.

Just so, Hypgnosis. You might expect the news story linked to would have interviews with outraged parents, but no, only from a couple of.... butchers.

Just fancy that.
