Curse the Labour party and this awful woman for compelling me to agree with Gorgious George: " Bradford New Labour. A supernova shambles...", bang on!

Yes, gromit, very likely. The one I posted earlier came out with the 'family matters' line. A month later it turned out to be fiddling her benefits.
// Also I think Women only lists are a travesty for democracy as they deny 50% of the population from standing //

No it doesn't. Any man can stand in Bradford West.

UKIP, Respect, Conservatives and the LibDems all have a male candidate. So making sure the Labour Candidate was female my have actually been a smart move.
Gromit,

///I am wondering if there is more to this. Whether she has a skeleton in her cupboard. ///

Make no bones about it, the real reason will emerge. It doesn't add up at all.

In another week where the credibility of our politicians has taken a big knock, this is, frankly, absurd.
"Any man can stand in Bradford West."

Not if he wants to stand as a Labour Party candidate, he cannot, Gromit.

Selecting a candidate from a list of women only precludes 50% of Labour supporters from standing for the seat. However you try to dress it up, it is plainly and simply discrimination on the grounds of gender prctised by an organisation that purports to have equality at the heart of its values.
New Judge,

If the Labour Party select from an all female list it is not denying the Bradford West population anything. I would argue that if the ballot paper contained all male names, that would be less of a choice for the locals.
What a load of b....s Gomit! If the ballot sheet ends up with all male names it could be any of numbers of reasons. Each party will select the best candidate, regardless of gender. It may be that women are not as drawn to the idea of being an MP as men. After all, who wants to join the bear pit that is the House of Commons?
Question Author
gromit demonstrates how the left can justify discrimination as long as its "good" discrimination. He'd be the first howling his head off if they had all male shortlists for anything.
