Curse the Labour party and this awful woman for compelling me to agree with Gorgious George: " Bradford New Labour. A supernova shambles...", bang on!

TTT - "... this awful woman ..."

Why is she 'awful?
She probably thought about it for a few days and realised that she had no chance of overturning such a huge majority....

she put her name forward to the local association went through the process and got the nomination, then bottled it. Could have withdrawn at any stage but waited to the last minute to upset the whole apple cart and make the local association look like the omni shambles they are. No doubt central office will also be squirming on this, not to mention the afore mention treacherous GG. So yes awfull woman is about right. To think she could easily have ended up and MP, is this what you want Labour girls and boys? I don't think so.

OK - but you are working on a supposition, rather than necessarily having a balanced set of facts on which to draw your conclusion, so she may have misjudged the situation, but personally, I think 'awful' is maybe a bit strong - ?
If you can't stand the heat............
Also I think Women only lists are a travesty for democracy as they deny 50% of the population from standing in their own constituency!
There's no indication in that link that the list was women only by design. I am not sure that that is allowed?
Wolfgang

It does, I quote

Amina Ali, from London, was named on Saturday as the "overwhelming choice" from an all-women shortlist.
///A Labour Party statement said: "As Amina Ali has made clear, she found it impossible to balance her family commitments with the commitment needed to be a parliamentary candidate.///

She really thought it through didn'she? I shudder to think if she stood and actually won the seat.

Surgeries - 'form an orderly queue while I just deal with this call from a family member'.
... but surely that means that all people on the short list were women, not that men had been precluded from putting themselves forward. Must admit though, that in a place like Bradford with a high Muslim population, it does seem a bit odd.
Besides, since when has the timetable for GCSE's been shifted about??
It's Labour policy to have all-women short-lists.
Except when Harriet Harperson's hubby needs a job.

"Must admit though, that in a place like Bradford with a high Muslim population, it does seem a bit odd. " that's why GG stood there, he knew his Muslim mates would deliver the seat via corrupt postal voting.
There is clearly a big problem when the labour mouthpiece says this:

//Len Tingle, BBC Look North's political editor, said the news of the withdrawal was "deeply embarrassing" for Labour.//

You shouldn't call it corrupt, ttt. It's a cultural thing, do keep up.
TTT - "...that's why GG stood there, he knew his Muslim mates would deliver the seat via corrupt postal voting."

Steady on - there are libel laws to be considered, and Mr Galloway is a notoriously litigious individual!!
Jackdaw. It's still discrimination if you chose prospective candidates by their sex rather than ability. labour has been having Women Only Shortlists for quite a while now. I remember Jacqui Smith saying she was proud to have been selected from a Women Only Short List. Frankly I would have been embarrassed by having ruled out half the population.
A good opportunity to air another everyday tale of labour folk;

So why do you think he stood there then ? best i can hope for is that you had your tongue in your cheek......
// "I'm delighted to have been given the backing of Bradford West members and will give this campaign everything I have." //

Which turned out to be not much at all.

I am wondering if there is more to this. Whether she has a skeleton in her cupboard. Sees odd she was so enthusiastic on saturday, and then limps off a few days later.
