And these words have not been spoken by some Far-Right racist bigoted fascist, these are the words of the former chairman of Commission for Racial Equality who also happens to be black, so surely there is no reason for anyone to disbelieve him, can they?

I will always shy away from being personally offensive to other AB News members. It's simply not worth it. There are a number of contributors who I hold in very high regard intellectually, and then there are others who make me smile, there are those who I find entertainly infuriating and then there are a few who I think are morons.

No good would come of listing the morons. I'm sure others on AB feel that I myself fall into some of those categories...it's all about perception.

Come on sp if you know who these genuine kniuckldraggers or racists are tell us all, just so the innocent are not so accused you understand?

What I have is an opinion, rather than an agreed list.

And I don't think anyone should be concerned with being lumped in with the knuckledraggers, because knuckledraggers already KNOW that they are knuckledraggers (a simple glance at their bruised and bleeding knuckles confirms that).
Down in London there was so much(cough,cough)non-white crime that the cops had to set up a separate department to deal with it,then (cough, cough)we find that the (cough, cough) non-white percentage of prisoners far exceeds the percentage of (cough,cough)non-whites in the UK.
Angry...and getting angrier.

/// but the problem is, the narrative of the debate has been so firmly 'owned' by those with extreme views (both to the Left and Right), that it leaves the rest of us assuming that anyone speaking out about race is BNP/EDL/Britain First...because they have had the loudest voices over the past few years. ///

Not the 'rest' only some, and it only those who are prepared to speak out in this age of 'controlled speak' who are labelled Racist, and it is them who seem to have the loudness voices, because where the criticism of immigration etc is concerned it is indeed a silent world, or at least some would wish it to be.

You mentioned the BNP/EDL/Britain First. but failed to mention UKIP all are given this racist tag, why because they dare to speak out, have any of these groups apart from the BNP actually been seen to have done anything so severe that they could definitely be classed racist? Yet to hear some they are almost on the same level as IS.

/// The reason that some people 'smell racism' is where the same crimes committed by white people are ignored. ///

I don't think that crimes committed by white people are ignored, people who think that could be accused of having a chip on their shoulder.

But if we see that certain crimes are being committed by certain groups, that wasn't the problem before wide spread immigration then of course these types of crime will be highlighted, it is of course unfortunate that others have to suffer but that is how it is. Saying we didn't have this scale or type of crime before such groups came here is not being racist but a fact,

If a group of people move into ones area, and because of them the peace and tranquillity is effected or the crime rate increases, then that group will obviously be blamed, be them white, black, Asian it matters not.

/// I suspect that where someone concentrates his or her questions on the basis of being critical of black people, Asians or gay people...human nature will dictate that others will (unfortunately) reach certain conclusions. ///

Could it be also that, that person likes to smell the fresh air, by not being scared to debate on what some class sensitive issues that should not be aired.

Isn't that what Trevor Phillips is getting at.

Isn't that a breeding ground for hate? There will be some branded unnecessarily, we are once again back to the article in question.

Everyone now checking their 'bruised and bleeding knuckles' speaking personally I am in the clear, then who's getting their blood all over their keyboards?

It would somewhat against the spirit of the site - not to say potentially libellous - to name some individuals whom someone has decided hold racist views - I think that is the reason why such accusations are not made often - and are soon taken down when they are.

I think anyone would shy away from that 'task' - self-appointed as it would need to be.

That's not strictly true.

There are plenty of people on AB who have robust views on race, but because they frame their posts within the context of a wide range of subjects, they are never tarred with the racist brush.

I think that criticism is reserved for those who seem to exclusively (or at least predominantly) post questions where they can resort to criticising black, Asian, gay people.

This is probably unfair, but having been on AB for a decade and seen a vast number of posts from a variety of people across the political spectrum, I can honestly say that the 'R' word is used quite sparingly.

I think we should avoid it altogether. Most people on the News section know who they thinks thee bigots are. Just like most people know who the 'traitors' are (synonym for anyone who doesn't support UKIP according to a strange post last year).

I say, seeing as we all know who we're talking about, let's not bother using the 'R' word any more...because we all know who is and who isn't (in our personal opinion), so what's the use in constantly pointing it out?!?

AOG

I didn't mention UKIP because I don't think that UKIP supporters are racist.

I think they're dim.

Ha ha...yes, would that be true, would that be true.

I know that you have been accused of bias in the past (and probably now), but you know what? If you are determined to have a voice, and predominately post threads which give you the opinion to criticise blacks, Asians, gays etc - then go on and do so.

Who cares what people call.

So what if you are dismissed as a racist, or gay-hater or sexist. I can assure you, there are [i]worse] names to be called!

I'm certain that those whom I think are moronic already know this.

It may be less obvious now, since my New Year's Resolution, but hopefully the two or three morons have gotten the message.
AOG

There's another reason why I think Trevor Phillips makes some sound points here.

Over the past few years (much less so now), if anyone from a minority stood up to discuss how racism, anti-gay sentiments, sexism etc affects them...the immediate response from some quarters is "they have a chip on their shoulder" or "they're just playing the x card".

This is exactly the same as what Mr Phillips is describing, but 'the other way around'.

It's a sly way of stifling debate - by immediately accusing someone with views that one may not agree with, with having a preloaded agenda.

I hope everyone who feels like loading the 'chip/shoulder' bullet into their argument gun thinks twice on it.
"And I don't think anyone should be concerned with being lumped in with the knuckledraggers, because knuckledraggers already KNOW that they are knuckledraggers (a simple glance at their bruised and bleeding knuckles confirms that)".
I wear leather gloves.

Apart from that I stoop to concur.

So you feel free to call UKIP supporters/voters dim. I am sure retrochic, who steps forward and has announces she is one who supports UKIP might feel slightly offended at your accusation.Don't suppose,as you are one who feels he is free to give labels to those who you do not agree with you to have a loud voice and air their views, you would object if someone who described you as "a sailor boy who enjoys dropping his anchor in poo bay"I do not care how you wish to label me.Racist,Moronic,Bigoted etc.I feel that I have been vindicated ,however, because I choose to voice how I feel about the way my country is going to the dogs because being stifled as a racist etc.
I provided a link yesterday, albeit I admitted it was a 15yr old statistic but it stated that ethnic minorities take the lions share of committing street crime.
That was based on professional experience of dealing with crime in the Metropolis by Sir Paul Condon in his Commissioners report. Now Sir Trevor Philips has actually confirmed those facts and they are true today.
Are you going to hand out one of your labels to Sir Trevor Philips as a racist, bigoted, moron or are you going to defend his views as an honest black educated man who isn't dim.Perhaps you would like to dig up another label for Sir Trevor Philips "Uncle Tom" Now that is one label you cannot put on me cos he is black and I am white.
///http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Uncle%20Tom///
Don't suppose an apology wouldn't go amiss to retrochic for your slur???

it would take too long - for a start wouldnt it ?
