I know other countries have their version of Top Gear without 'our' trio of presenters, but I suspect it was Clarkson's persona that made the show here what it was. If they try to replace him and continue, then best of luck but I don't hold a great deal of expectation of greater things to come, no matter who took over the lead role.
Meanwhile Clarkson probably has the option of doing something similar as an independent (not too similar I suspect) but I can't see why he would; unless the taxman is baying for money he doesn't have. The occasional guest appearance on shows for some extra pocket money and boost the old ego, but aside from that, why work when there are so many other things to do in life (and which become less easy if left until older) ?
All rather unfortunate really for all concerned.

I have no time for Clarkson and very little interest in whether he has been sacked/contract not renewed or not...but anyone who attacks a work colleague is normally summarily dismissed. I cannot see how anyone can disagree with this.
My opinion is that Clarkson has been overpaid for so long now that he has a hugely inflated opinion of himself...he thinks he can do no wrong.
I also think that alcohol has played a large part in this disgraceful episode.
My prediction is that he will not get another job with anyone for some considerable time.
Let's wait and see.

Don't let your sense of morally correct behaviour obscure the desire for TV companies to snap up viable talent for vast sums of money - even if they are handy with their fists when upset.
This is the media we are talking about ... they do things differently there.

Easy because something that should have been sorted out behind scenes, no press involved, was brought to the attention of the press through their own News service, the Beeb corporate feeding their own hawks - and in doing so, probably resulting in the destruction of the programme and an income of £150 million a year. Bet they are back in soon asking for an increase in the licence fee. To that - 'Refused' would be my call on that one.

As has been advised by myself, and others on here - Clarkson was the one who reported the incident to the BBC, not the media, so they had no choice but to act in line with their disciplinary procedures.
Regardless of the amount of money they stand to lose, the BBC thought it might be a good idea to enforce its own rules where physical assault is concerned.
Speaking as a licence payer, I think they did the right thing - then, and now.
