Sex Offending Is Written In Dna Of Some Men.

In an earlier thread regarding changes to the law where homosexuals were concerned, and peoples acceptances, I wrote
*** Just because a law has been passed does not automatically alter everyone's mind or attitude, in fact it has been proven time and time again that some law changes infuriates all manner of peoples. ***
*** Say somewhere down the years, the law was altered to make paedophilia no longer unlawful, because those likely to commit those offences where born like it, could you expect everyone then to accept that? ***
Having read the report in the link down below, was my forecast all that wrong?

Our thoughts are simply those that emanate from our brains. They may well define who WE are rather than we controlling them. But even if that proved to be the case, society could not survive without assuming personal responsibility, fair or not. So to have a propensity to have an urge to do something wrong can not be used to absolve the individual. (They'll have to take the unfairness of it all up with their God at the appropriate time.)
I have said here more than once that nobody chooses to be a paedophile, they are either born like it or conditioned to have that drive.
It is not unlawful to be a paedophile, it is the act that is unlawful and it will never be legal because of the harm it does to the victims.
Because paedophiles are (probably) the most loathed members of society it is difficult for them to get help. Who would donate to a charity whose aim it is to support paedophiles? Admitting to a doctor or any official that you have this urge and asking for help will have life long repercussions that could affect all aspects of your life so there is nowhere to go with the exception of other paedophiles. That can never be a good situation. Blackmail is always a risk.
It is impossible to know how many paedophiles that have never committed an offence there are, because nobody would admit to it.
Something has got to change.

Re acceptance.
Homosexuality is acceptable as a practice because it involves mentally capable willing partners old enough to make such decisions, so it's pretty much their own private business.
Paedophilia involves individuals too young to be considered capable of making such decisions and therefore it is seen as abuse, and so unacceptable. No sane legal system would allow such to be lawful, the only question to be argued over is what age is someone considered capable of making a decision (such as to indulge in sex) for themselves.

The law is unlikely ever to be changed.
Homosexuality has always been a victimless crime and was therefore rightly decriminalised.
As hc says, *anyone* can be a paedophile and until they act on any impulse they are not a criminal.
Laws are not (despite what the more timid amongst you think) made in order to create victims.

Can't resist a DNA story, me.
"Although it is not clear which genes are responsible for raising the risk, the academics suggest that those linked to increased impulsivity, egotism and decreased intellectual ability could be responsible."
Egotistic dimwits, with poor impulse control? That sounds about right.

Yes AOG, your forecast is still wrong.
Here's my own forecast - paedophile relationships will never be decriminalised in the UK.
Furthermore, I will reiterate my response to your comment on the other thread...laws are passed which reflect changing attitudes. Sometimes those laws are little behind public attitudes and sometimes they are just ahead.
It has been proven time and again that all changes in the law infuriate some people...and that's exactly as it should be.
In a democratic society, there will be a wide breadth of opinion on absolutely every subject, and therefore it is actually desirable that at some point some are going to be infuriated by changes in the law.

hc4361, I have to disagree on your statement that it is difficult for paedophiles to get help. It isn't.
The trouble is that most hardened ('scuse the unintended pun) paedophiles see nothing wrong in their actions and can always justify them. This group of people will never seek help.
There are numerous organisations to help those who are willing to be helped.
One that springs to mind is The Circles of Support

There was a very interesting CH4 documentary on earlier this year about paedophiles, and they actually got one chap to go on camera and talk about his urges.
As far as I can recall, he hadn't acted on his condition, but was willing to talk because he wanted to explain what it meant for him.
I've got nothing but contempt for paedophiles who assault children, but now after seeing that documentary, I feel a degree of sympathy for those who are 'passive paedophiles' (i.e.. those who have the attraction but never act on it).
