what UK law has he broken, exactly?
May be that is too early to speculate. If he is being investigated then he ,alone, has the right to know why and his brief of course. The police don't have to inform us.
Perhaps your question should be - What should happen to the Labour Councillor now?

There is clearly a huge problem in Rochdale. I really believe it will soon be time for the Army in that particular place. flush them out before many people are seriously hurt in this country.

You would never know from Rochdale on line that they are about to be become a military hotspot. I hope they get to have world book night first.

//I remember many years ago, people were going to Africa to fight as mercenaries, but there was no fuss about it. //

That's because we didn't think there was a possibility that they'd come back with the intention of killing us.
AOG...the fact that this chap is a Labour Councilors son is neither here nor their. The lad is 21 years old, not 10 years old. As far as I can see from the news, he hasn't been charged with any offence, nor can I see what offence he has committed, apart from stupidity.

My thoughts are with his father and others in his family, who must have been very worried when the son disappeared.

/// I remember many years ago, people were going to Africa to fight as mercenaries, but there was no fuss about it. No-one tried to stop them, even though it was common knowledge. ///

But they wasn't going to Africa so as to be brainwashed in terrorist training camps, only later to return back to the UK and go on to create havoc here.

I think your response would have been quite different had he been the son of a UKIP candidate.

It's simply amazing how far you will go to support your dreaded Labour Party.
10ClarionSt, there are - but they haven’t, as yet, experienced a special course in military training by IS. They are still amateurs.

Waheed Ahmed ought to be dealt with as the Law allows.

However, quite what his father's occupation has to do with anything I don't know....as Mikey says Ahmed is a grown man.

However, given the post to which he is refusing to return.....there is heavy irony in Mikey's final paragraph.

/// Home grown. That sounds like a crop of tomatoes. ///

And let's hope that we can crush them so easily.

Hear, hear.
AOG...my response would be exactly the same if he was the son of any Councillor. The sins of the son are not reflected in the sins of the father !

To repeat, the political allegiance of this chaps father has nothing whatsoever to do with the issue of what to do with the son, now that he is returned to Britain. You have used this post as a way of attacking Labour. If it had been the son of a Tory Councillor, you would have found another news item to post on !

We are in the middle of a very lively Election, the closest Election for many, many years. There are lots of issues that need debating, and this isn't the most important AOG !
