Having tasted unemployment in the last 2 years, this is one example of how IDS "saved" 2m from the dole. The job centre will direct you to an employment agency. I suspect they get a recruitment fee from the govt. The agency tell you they have lots of clients with work in warehousing, packing, clerical, driving etc. You sign with the agency and they become your employer. But, surprise surprise, they only have enough work for 2 or 3 days per week, sometimes not even that. So your employer cannot guarantee a full weeks work from one week to the next. Just try getting help with benefits to top up your earnings, which some weeks will be zero, and see how difficult that is. On occasions, you go to the company for your detailed work, and when you get there they will ask who sent you, as you're not needed, resulting in lost travelling expenses with no earnings, but you're still in "employment". People just get messed about, but the unemployment figures go down. Result for the government at your cost. T0$$ers.

It's all bull crap. You can never believe any government figures - all manipulated to suit there own means.
I not working at the moment due to redundancy and I'm not signing on or claiming any benefits, just living off my limited savings. Where am I on their statistics spreadsheets.
These figures are not a true reflection of the employment/unemployment of the UK population. There are many more like me.

good afternoon 10ClarionSt

'i hear you' - i have just been through several months of unemployment after being made redundant last august, and was occasionally sent somewhere by one or other of the agencies i signed on with for just a day or two.

now i am in a temp-to-perm situation, so things may be a little more secure in a few months

Fanriffic - like yourself, i did not sign on, i lived on my redundancy and cut down on my outgoings, in between those brief jobs - - i sympathise with your situation, and hope you find something soon
Thank you excelsior-1. It's a jungle out there.
I sympathise with you all but can't see things improving
C'mon right wingers...come and challenge what these posters are saying.

Or pretend you haven't seen it....
IDS is a typical Tory (or master race as they like to think of themselves) who has absolutely no idea how the working class have to live. I think it should be law in this country that no-one should be allowed to go into politics as a career until they have held a job down for at least 5 years ( & I don't mean serving on a board of directors) then maybe, just maybe they will understand what it is like to be ''the man in the street'' & be able to serve in government doing the right thing for the folks they represent.
Well said Ron
//IDS is a typical Tory (or master race as they like to think of themselves) //

What rubbish!
I've always thought of him more in the Workhouse Master mould.
Naomi....What is rubbish ?

a) IDS is a typical Tory or

b) Part of the master race.
SirOracle, That Tories like to think of themselves as the master race.
Sadly Naomi too many of them do.
Labour is the organiser and master of the benefit scroungers race.
That's a perception perpetrated by stupid statements like the one we're talking about. What is ‘a Tory’?
^That was to SirOracle.
Those who vote Labour may have themselves to blame if they are unemployed.
Who opened the floodgates and let cheap immigrant labour into the country.
There are jobs if scroungers would stop scratching their nuts and get out of bed to do it.No stay in bed with your plasma TV sets, satellite dishes, fags and booze.
Not generalising and tarring all who were made redundant with the same brush of course.
Naomi please don't act "the daft laddie"it doesn't become you.

Look up your Chambers " A Conservative...a bigoted or extreme Conservative ......etc etc.
SirOracle, I have no idea what acting ‘the daft laddie’ means. Since you’ve declared that ‘too many of them do’ like to think of themselves as the master race, I’ve asked you to give me YOUR definition of ‘a Tory’ - a fair request.
Personally, I blame the Labour Government for creating this low-wage economy. Flooding the country with cheap labour & subsidising businesses with tax credits, in work housing benefit, etc. Few people could afford to take zero hour/ part time contracts without those subsidies.
At the moment businesses have a financial incentive to split what could be a full time job into several part time/ zero hour jobs.
I noticed Ed pledged to force employers to take people on full time after 12 weeks. That's only going to end one way for people after 11 weeks and I'm not thinking a happy way.
Naomi......My definition is exactly the same as that given in Chambers. How can that possibly be faulted ?
