If only we could send them back to their own countries as easily as it is for Turkey to send our wayward citizens who head for Syria, back to the UK?

/// define "safe". it's not difficult to make a case for the UK fitting a particular definition - language and culture are 2 good planks of that case. ///
I can't see that being able to speak the language of the chosen country has any sway and regarding culture, the culture of a person coming from Africa does not in any way mirror the culture of the UK.

/// As far as I'm aware (and I was involved in Cross Channel Security after I left the Royal Marines) the UK Government does not control France! ///
You must really read what I put,
You put "France has "A Strong New Conservative Government" when did that happen? "
I replied "who said they had?"
To which you replied "As far as I'm aware (and I was involved in Cross Channel Security after I left the Royal Marines) the UK Government does not control France!"
Needing me to repeat again, where did I say that they did?
Because unlike you, I am 'fully aware' that the UK Government does not control France!"

//well all we have to do is enforce current EU law//
not sure how that helps us. it's the nations at the fringe of the EU that need to enforce their own rules, but they'll never do that as long as it's easier to send migrants on and let them be someone else's problem. our border isn't bound by EU law (except for granting free passage to EU nationals) since we never ratified the Schengen Agreement.

If that is the case AOG, what in all honesty do you expect our Government to do about a problem that is located in France, just to be clear France is 20+ miles of water away from the UK, hope this clears up the confusion you appear to be suffering from!

And we must praise Labour for that, it is only a pity that they didn't put a curb on the number of Commonwealth citizens coming into this country, when they dished out British pass-ports to them back in the late 50s and 60s.

mushroom, they must apply in the first sfe country, that is hardly ever Britain. Just close the borders send 100% of illegals back to France. If France have any sense they'll send them back too. In then end those countries with the porous borders will be forced to sort their own borders out. simples!

AOG, i thought you were old enough to remember that when the economy at last began to pick up after WW2, there was a chronic shortage of human resource that could only be fulfilled from outside the UK; the baby boomers didn't come on line until much later, it was the right thing to do at the time.

I am not suffering from any confusion, but it is you that seems unable to grasp the essence of what my thread says.
I am of course referring to the number of illegal immigrants that are managing to smuggle themselves into the UK.

I agree there was a shortage of labour after WW2, but they didn't have to give everyone a carte blanche right to come to this country, we should have reserved entry to only those that were needed.
