Good for her!
"she insists EU plan for migrant quotas would only encourage them"

which is what i said when it was first posted on here....why do people think we are already swamped with immigrants...

It's what they do in the Canary Islands - last time we were there, a boatload landed from North Africa. They fed them, and put them on the plane back.
It has to be this way, these are not asylum seekers they are economic migrants from all over Africa/Asia.

The EU should send them back as soon as possible to send the message they are not wanted.

The UK will still have the problem even if we don't let them in on a quota. Other EU countries will let them in , give them EU citizenship and over here they will come. Which is the stated aim of many coming over the Med.

We need to get out of the HRA and out of the EU. Only way to control our borders.
How many of those rescued in the Med have arrived here?
Probably none Sandy
As yet you may well be right, but this question is based on how many the EU want to force on us, plus those that will settle in another EU country but will immediately make there way here.

It would be daft to wait until thery are here, better to sort the cause BEFORE it happens.
Economic migrants aren't our only problem. These boats provide a perfect opportunity for IS who are already in Libya and have vowed to attack Europe, to invade the whole continent by stealth. The BBC reported back in February …

//Libyan militants allied to IS released a video that appeared to show the beheading of 21 Egyptian prisoners. The choreography echoed videos shot in Iraq and Syria. However, instead of desert, the prisoners were positioned on a beach, against the grey Mediterranean Sea.
Addressing the camera, a masked man promised attacks in Europe. "And now we are south of Rome, on the land of Islam, Libya," he said, "sending you another message."//

We have no idea who is coming to Europe in these boats – and yet the European powers that be want us to open our doors to them. Europe is very stupidly sleepwalking into a potential nightmare - in more ways than one.
"How many of those rescued in the Med have arrived here? "

The answer is unknown but it is not none.

The rescue operation off Italy has been going on for many, many months. The majority of those currently turning the port of Calais into a cess-pit have arrived via the Med. They are quickly ushered across the Italian border into France and from there it is all points north for them. So it is very likely that some currently in Calais have been rescued.

It is widely acknowledged that many illegals make it to the UK from Calais every month. So it is equally likely that a number of them came via the Med and had to be rescued. So the answer is almost certainly more than none.
I agree with what boxtops told us about what happens in the Canaries. Rescue them, make sure they are all well and then put them back on ships and, send them back from where they came from.

If they knew that this was what was going to happen to them, the illegal smuggling would soon die out.
If people arrived in the Canaries without documentation how would the authorities know where to send them?
Mainland, Africa.
Of I landed in the Canaries I'd think twice about coming here
Or even IF
The salient point in Mrs May's comments concern the addressing of the issues that cause economic migration.

If the countries involved can have their own economic issues addressed, it will reduce and eventually eradicate the need for economic migration - and that is the root of the whole issue.

In the mean time, I would support strenuous location and prosecution of the trafficking gangs, with their boats destroyed as a matter of course.
^So you'd let them all in?
They probably pay more for a short break in Tenerife than we do!
Naomi - //So you'd let them all in? //

You are developing a distressing habit of seeing things in my posts that are simply not there.

Nowhere have I said, hinted, or implied that I would let any and all economic migrants into this country.

If you want to know what my view is - read my post, but don't tack on something from your imagination afterwards and bounce it back for rebuttal.

Thank you.
Is this the same Home Secretary who's government was talking not so long ago of reducing the numbers of incomers to the low thousands per year?
andy-hughes, //You are developing a distressing habit of seeing things in my posts that are simply not there.

You’re becoming distressed quite unnecessarily. If you look again you’ll see a question mark at the end of my … ‘question’. I’ve read your post – it doesn’t answer my question – hence the question.

No need to thank me. You're welcome.
