Where does it say 2 million?
It was 2 billion raised for the treasury in the original float.

Here's a story saying it wasn't handled to the maximum profitability though:

The best thing people can do instead of denigrating it is to take part. I bought a few for £3.30 in the original flotation and flogged them for a fiver. Made over 650 quid which paid for a nice long weekend away for me and Mrs NJ.

There's no reason for businesses such as the mail service to be run by the government and the best thing to do is sell them off.

^Easy to say with hindsight. If you knew beforehand you should play the stockmarket, you'll make a fortune.
