wigan decorator ian stephens believes he's been picked on because he drives a white van
http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/wigan-driver-convicted-middle-lane-9507181

but he didn't go to court to argue his case -
//I can’t afford nearly £1,000. I didn’t go to court because I have to go to work.//

white van man arrogance? or pragmatism borne of police harrassment?

That link regards that HGV, look at the number plate! Micky, I must agree, like farting in the wind.
TWR...you can take a horse to water, etc, etc, !
well if someone could give one sensible reason why we should leap frog down the road I might listen, no one has yet. Clearly mikey/TWR don't know, they seem to blindly obey the "rules" without knowledge or reasoning. A lot of the time on Motorways these days the left lane tends to become a slip road to the next junction, causing more dangerous lane changes. see the video above. The americans seem to manage. The HGV in the video is correct, he doesn't have to change lanes at all, only the leap frogger on the inside has to do that.
TTT...I and many others have pointed out that you are wrong, many times in the last 24 hours. So I see no point in continuing this debate any longer.

Read the Highway Code !
I agree with TTT.

If the motorway is empty then stay in the left lane...if it's full I'm not willing to switch and change lanes. Stick to the middle and overtake on the right.

"Rules are for the blind obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men."
The view seems to be that changing lanes is the main cause of accidents. The lane hogger creates the situation where more people have to change lanes unnecessarily to get past him.
How many motorway accidents are caused by lane changing and how many are caused by outstaying your time in the middle lane. The statistics on this would be interesting.......however I think we all know the results.
That tends to be my view Baldric, trouble is no one thinks they aren't wise. Only a few of us are correct.
Mikey: "TTT...I and many others have pointed out that you are wrong, many times in the last 24 hours. So I see no point in continuing this debate any longer.

Read the Highway Code ! " - yes but you have not explained why, yes it says it in the HC but do you blindly obey everything? You think I'm wrong because of your own programming not for any reason you can explain to me, that's how religions work and I know you are not religious.
On a motorway with light traffic you should keep to the left. However with moderate to high volumes what is the point of constantly merging into lane 1 where traffic is averaging 60mph at best and oncoming traffic requires safe entry.
Well deserved imo !
I have carefully avoided the rights and wrongs of White Van Man's prosecution, concentrating only on his sentencing. However, this set me off again:

"Stick to the middle and overtake on the right."

So two questions, then, ummm:

What's the inside lane for?

What do you do on stretches of motorway with four or five lanes? Use lanes 3 & 4 (or 4 & 5) only?
The major cause of accidents on motorways is INCOMPETENT drivers changing lanes. Anyone hiding behind the changing lanes excuse for centre lane hogging is admitting to being an incompetent driver.
Am I missing something .. what is the significance in the number plate ?
That HGV In the pic is a foreign truck, the driver may have only just driving in the UK & un aware of the rule, this topic is about a 3 lane Motorway that's where this driver got done.

It may be a Foreign Trailer but viewed on a large screen it's a British Number Plate on the back of it.
Got the basstard, well done, £100 or don't show in court and you take the consequences, £500 plus £440 seems reasonable to me....
-- answer removed --
TWR ... it's specsavers for you and you are clutching at straws. It's a UK plate and the trailer is owned by Main Line, a haulage company based in Willenhall .. http://www.mainline-haulage.co.uk/

Come on you have got to admit it when you are wrong !
