There are a lot of Brit. Drivers that pick up unaccompanied trailers from Docks / Depots as well.

right so at this stage in the discussion we still don't know why it is bad to drive at >70 in the middle lane. Well, beyond the answer: "because the HC says so". Anyway, do any of the the motoring experts above know why? nope thought not!

Only people who can't drive properly (recently started driving, seldom drive, bit doddery) cruise in the middle lane because they're scared to change lanes on the motorway.
Nb. You can add insufferably arrogant know-alls to the above list. There was a story about someone like that getting beat up for his troubles but I can't find it on the net.

Does this mean if you don't agree with a point of law you don't need to abide by it?

You, of all people, shouldn't be in favour of it, Balders. Next time you're happily pootling down the fast lane at a150mph some inattentive person might pull out in front of you at 50mph because of middle-lane hoggers.
And no way do they go at 70mph. That could only happen if everyone who did under 70 stayed in the slow lane. (ie. no overtaking slow lorries, etc.)
